For hundreds of years, stereotyping and gender inequity have been a feature of human
society, and they continue to exist today. Each human being is a member of numerous groups,
including those defined by gender, age, and ethnic origin. Stereotyping has had a huge impact
on our lives as a result of people's negative perceptions of various groups. Gender is one
category that has had a profound effect on our self-perception. Gender equality has remained a
challenge in a number of industries over the years, as study has showed.
According to United Nations Development Programme (2021), Inequality between men and
women continues to be a significant impediment to human development. Since 1990, girls and
women have made significant progress toward gender equality, but they have not yet achieved
it. Women and girls face numerous difficulties, which contribute significantly to inequality.
Women and girls are frequently discriminated against in areas such as health, education,
political representation, and the labor market—all of which have a detrimental effect on their
growth and freedom of choice.
Historically, Nigerian women possessed spiritual and political authority, and women and men
were viewed as equal in many sections of the country. However, this was in the past. Nigeria is
now a country that discriminates against its female population in ways that few other countries
on the planet can match. Discrimination takes many forms based on ethnic origin, area, and
class, yet all women in the country face discrimination just for being women (Salami, Minna).
This is the quintessential conflicting scenario. On the one hand, we enjoy discussing powerful
matriarchal figures from our cultural heritage and our own families. The majority of Nigerians
will attest to having grown up surrounded by strong women; grandparents, moms, sisters,
aunties, and instructors, to name a few. Without a doubt, we are a nation that values female
sexuality.
This is not a man's brief for oppression. Masculinity may be toxic, not only for women, but also
for males, who are more likely to die in war, are more likely to wind up in prison, and are more
likely to be beaten up—they die younger. And they are deprived of the life of their children.

Additionally, females have a higher level of education. They also have a greater social circle.
This is not to deny that women are oppressed or that men are oppressors. It is not difficult to
comprehend how women are considered as second-class citizens. Men, meanwhile, are losers
in our gendered environment (Satz, 2018).
Naturally, whatever difficulties men experience diminish in compared to those faced by
oppressed women. Even if the master's mansion is vacant, the master retains ownership. And
even males who do not own a home continue to outnumber women who do. That is because
their gendered culture leads people to believe that masculinity is synonymous with oppressing
women.
According to recent research, philosophers outperform non-philosophers on this test, and males
outperform women. Taken together, these findings could account for a portion of the gender
divide in philosophy: women are underrepresented in the field because they are less likely to
possess the ideal 'philosophical personality.' If this explanation for the gender divide in
Philosophy is accepted, it may be argued that it absolves Philosophy departments of the need to
implement much-needed gender diversification strategies (Easton, 2018).
Gender inequality has a remarkable diversity and breadth. By both objective and subjective
measures, women and men are unequal in every imaginable aspect in an infinite number of
scenarios, both immediate and enduring. We constantly make informal references to causes and
effects in our everyday conversations (Jackson, 2021). We all live our lives — choosing acts,
making choices, and attempting to influence others – in accordance with theories about why and
how things happen in the world. From the earliest stages of development, we attribute reasons,
forming an intelligible view of the social (and physical) world. Every action, every decision, is
predicated on our prediction of the repercussions, on our comprehension of the implications.
Analytical and scientific thinking follow a similar pattern, but require a more methodical and
self-conscious approach to causation.

Moreover, at every level, attempts to explain gender inequity are dogged by essentialism.
Essentialist arguments attribute separate characteristics to women and men and attribute the
social distinctions between women and men's activities, opportunities, positions, and roles to
these distinct characteristics. Even theoretical assessments of gender disparity that explicitly
rule out substantial, underlying sex differences frequently base their explanations for inequality
on gender differences. To further complicate matters, essentialist arguments for women's greater

traits coexist with arguments for women's inferiority (Jackson, 2021).

The idea is based on western philosophy, wherein it prefers to generalize the ideas and
demonstrates how they all reflect the same realities; it emphasizes the importance of looking at
an idea holistically and highlighting the commonalities.
