Process questions
1. How did you know whether the image is fact or fake information?
2. What are your considerations for reviewing facts?

A fact generally refers to something that is true and can be verified. This is
something that can be proven to be true. On the other hand, opinion refers to
a personal belief. It relates to how someone feels about something. Other
may agree or disagree with an opinion, but cannot prove or disapprove it.

Activity 2: “Let’s Do It” Identify the explicit claims of fact in a written text.
Direction: Read the passage below and list down the claim of facts by answering the guide
questions.

One day a widower who will be gone for two days to transact business in another town
asked his beautiful daughters to help each other to care of their home. The eldest daughter
said she would if her father would promise to buy her a new dress. The second daughter
answered that she would like to heed her father’s request but she needed to sleep because
she wasn’t able to get enough the night before. She added that if there was anybody who
could take care of the house, it would be her youngest sister because she’s very like their late
mother. The youngest is a beautiful but sickly lady, responded and told her father not to worry
because she will do as her father instructed. The father was pleased. When he arrived from his
trip, he brought his daughter gifts from the nearby town.

IV. EVALUATION
Apply the understanding of explicit details by identifying the LEAD in the newspaper.
Direction: Use the online newspaper to gather information about Covid-19. Make use of the
LEAD of the newspaper to get the explicit claim of facts. LEAD in the newspaper are the WH-H
Questions.

When talking about writing, “explicit” means something that is stated. Explicit information is clearly stated, leaving
nothing implied. You should know the difference between opinion and facts if you’re dealing with explicit claim of
facts. A fact generally refers to something that is true and can be verified. This is something that can be proven to
be true. On the other hand opinion refers to a personal belief.
