Chief Engineer Standing instructions – read, understood and signed by all engineer including
1 El.Officer and Junior Engineer.
2 Main Engine Soot Blowing Procedures – Chief Engineers Instructions.
3 Watch Keeping Schedule is posted for the current month.
4 Operators Policy is posted.
5 Operation of following alarms tried out:
6 a. OWS 15PPM Alarm
7 b. Main Engine Fuel Leak Off Alarm
8 c. Aux Engine Fuel Leak Off Alarm
9 d. Engine Room Bilge Level Alarm
10 e. Main Engine Oil Mist Detector Alarm
Emergency Bilge Suction valve is having rope to avoid accidental opening and Caution notice
11 is posted locally.

12 Procedure for getting the Main Engines Started from Dead Ship Condition is posted in ECR
13 Insulation is Infinity on 110V & 220V supply.
Bunker transfer plans / checklist properly filled and completed – H2S precautions while
14 bunkering – follow technical circular
15 ORB entries as per company guidelines
Bilge valves connected to various pumps are sealed and a record for seal numbers in
16 maintained onboard – either in ORB or in Engine Log Book.
17 Shock Poster is posted on ECR main Switchboard.
18 High Pressure –e.g.- Fuel Oil Lines are covered with NO SPRAY Tapes
19 High Temperature – e.g. - Steam Lines are Covered and Lagged
20 Portable Tools in Workshop are having original connections and wires are not loose
21 Hot work is carried out only in designated HOTWORK zone
22 Oxygen and Acetylene lines are having Flash Back Arrestors on both ends.
23 Poster in place to confirm Oxygen and Acetylene bottles to be disconnected in port.
24 Emergency generator - HP Lines are covered with Anti Splash Tapes
25 Emergency generator - Shock Poster posted on Switchboard

26 Emergency generator – Fuel tank is marked with fuel requirements for 18hrs or Operation.
Emergency generator – Alternative means of starting identified and located in Emergency
27 generator room.
Emergency generator – Procedure for switching over to Alternate means of starting
28 prepared and posted locally.
Emergency generator - Minimum fuel requirement(for 18 hrs as per SOLAS)calculation sheet
29 pasted on the Emergency Generator Fuel Tank.

38 All machinery in Workshop is having the emergency pedestal stop.
39 Procedure for authorization for changing the setting in ECR panel is posted in ECR.
40 MSDS for the Cargo carried onboard to be posted in ECR.
41 Poster for 33 CFR conformances is posted in ECR – Disposal of Oil Prohibited.
Bilge Overboard Discharges are having Warning poster – Not be used without Chief
42 Engineer’s permission.
43 Non Intrinsically safe torches should not be used even in Engine Room.
All fuel tanks level indicators should not be having any kind of rope or wire or cable ties
44 attached for continuous readout.
45 All Standby machinery which can start automatically should have caution notice.
46 Date of testing of Main Engines from Local Side should be posted locally.
47 Procedures for Emergency manoeurving should be posted in ECR.
48 Phoenix should be updated along with Spares Inventory and Management.
49 Dead man’s alarm if fitted should be operational and last test date should be available.

50 Engineer’s call alarm if fitted should be operational and last test date should be available.
Procedures for starting all the Critical Machinery should be posted in ECR and locally next to
51 the equipment.
52 Purifier room to be clean and having independent means of ventilation.
53 Reserve Tank for Steering gear is fully charged.
54 Steering gear bilge well to be dry .
55 Oil record book dates should be entered in dd-MONTH-yyyy format, e.g., 26-April-2011.
The nomenclature of the tanks written in the oil record  book should be same as mentioned
56 in  IOPP Form B.
57 Weekly entries of soundings of all the tanks as per IOPP Form B
58 Critical equipment list as per Engine room procedures to be updated in the Amos.
59 PMS to be updated in Phoenix
60 Weekly and monthly routine to be updated in the separate register .
61 Fuel valve testing kit should have ppe and the procedure posted next to the kit.
To mention in the procedure for overboard discharge “To Inform OOW prior discharging
62 bilges overboard” .
63 Engine room bilges to be dry.

64 To take a round from inside the funnel check for any steam leaks from the auxillary boilers.
Boiler flat to be checked and ensure that no soot visible on the floor plates and surrounding
65 areas.
66 Please ensure that H2S & Benzene checks are being filled in the bunker checklist.
Steering Gear hydraulic tank has minimum level to be maintained for at least one hydraulic
67 system marked/indicated on the storage tank.
68 Lube Oil Reports - If any Warning/Critical than change the oil and make entry
69 All empty drums to place on wooden pallets and lashed properly.
70 Soot eductor valve in engine room bottom flat to lock securely.
71 Sewage plant overboard valve locking arrangement to be in place.
All wire slings to be tagged with SWL from the certificates on board.The ones which are
72 without the SWL to be discarded
73 Saturday routine book to be updated with latest entries.
74 safety goggles in chemical lockers/battery room are of the full sealing type.
Please ensure that O2 analyser for IG is callibrated within 12 hours preceding to cargo
75 discharge.Same to be updated in the callibration record sheet.
76 Please ensure that all anti-spalsh tapes are dry and no lagging is torn or damaged.
77 Connections to all lights on deck has proper sealing
78 All Fire extinguishers in ER monthly inspection carried out
79 Oil Record Book - No entries of transfer from IOPP tank to Bunker tank
80 Oil Record Book - Entries under code 11 to be only of tanks covered under IOPPC 3.1
81 Testing Gas for Smoke detector is non-flammable type
82 Latest Bunker C/L is in use with agreed rate of bunkering at starting and during topping
