Chapter 1
Introduction

Enviro X-press is a pneumatic operated waste compactor made for decrease

extent of waste as plastic, paper and cardboard. It is developed with view to
international regulation where it prevents the operator to lift no more than 25kg
repeatedly.

1; introduction.
x There is no surface treatment on Enviro X-press
x Please note: Don’t expose the compactor of acid liquids or chlorine
liquids when it may damage pipes, components as well as discolouration.

Chapter 3
Installation

x Enviro X-press is delivered commissioning (ready-made).

x It has to be installed on a straight basement which not deviate more than 2

degrees of angle.

x It has to be attached with 4 pieces, 10mm stainless steel bolts with retaining disc
or braze welded onto the basement.

x Connect clean and dry air to the mechanical valve. The valve has a quick snap
coupling adjust 8mm pipe or ½ inch screw coupling.

x To service Enviro X-press, disconnect air hose and drain off air in the cylinder.

x Please note: Piston plate may slide down slowly when air pressure is removed
from cylinder.

Chapter 4
Construction and manner of operation

x Enviro X-press is made to satisfy requirement of international regulation that the

operator is not lifting by hand more than 25kg repeatedly. Volume of the sack is
also adapted with view to transportation onboard and adapted to some brand of
incinerators.

x Enviro X-press is made to compress waste like plastic, paper and cardboard. It is
a strong construction, made of stainless steel to hold under the tough
environment which often exist onboard a ship.

x It has a shape like a barrel. On the top of the barrel there is a plate which is a
little bit smaller than the barrel. There is installed a pneumatic cylinder on the
plate.

x To compress the waste you have to take out the barrel from the frame and drop
the waste into the barrel. Afterwards you move back the barrel to the position in
the frame and move the handle (branch) at the hand valve (fig. 4 pos 5 p 14).
Piston will now move down to the waste and compressing it.

6
Chapter 5
Operating

1. Lift the handle at the safety lock (fig 1 pos 5 p 11) and take out the barrel,
remember to use the handle.

2. Put a plastic sack into the barrel. Make a 2cm fold and turn down on the edge of
the barrel. The sack will now be in its right place while compressing.

3. Drop the waste into the barrel.

4. Push the barrel into the frame, use the handle. Check that the barrel is in locket
position.

5. Move the handle (fig 4 pos 5 p 14) towards START. Now the piston is
compressing the waste. It returns automatically when you move the handle back
towards STOP.

6. It is possible to refill with more waste by repeating procedure 1, 3 and 5 until the
sack is full.

7. When the sack is full, pull out the barrel, lift out the sack and tie in the end.

8. If the sack is stuck to the barrel, open the clip to gain space.

9. Remember to attach the handle again after removing the sack.

10. Replace a new plastic sack into the barrel.

Norwegian regulation puts limitation of weight while repeatedly manual lifts. When
objects weights more than 25kg has the operator claims against lifting device.

Don’t fill the sack completely if it is going to be thrown into an incinerator.

7
The plastic sack is transparent because it makes it easier to control if there is any
harmful object in the sack.

The barrel may be put in the position “ready-to-throw-in” while the ship is at the sea.
During bad weather we recommend that the barrel is under the piston and locked with
the safety lock.
Out of order
Based upon experience there is few problem which arise while using the waste
compactor Enviro X-press.

Problems which may arise while running is:

x The sack is to heavy to lift from the barrel:

1. Unfasten the clip which keeps the barrel together.

x The sack splits:

2. It may happens when sharp objects from the waste is situated in such way
that it cuts the plastic.

x It compresses badly:
3. Check air pressure (has to be app. 6 bar)
4. Boxes etc recommends tear to pieces before you throw it into the barrel.
5. Water may has arrived into the air cylinder from humid air.

Danger:
By wrong handling it is risk to crush which may injure health and life. Enviro X-press is
marked with warning signs and warning sticks in area with danger of crush.

Warning:
By breaking the procedure of use, it may involve danger of life and crush injury. The
machine is marked with warning sign and warning sticks in area with danger of crush.

Pay attention:
By wrong use and by breaking the procedure it may involve destruction of the equipment.

8
Safety Programme

x Pay attention and be always careful when make use of equipment and
maintenance.

x When pulling the barrel outwards and inwards the frame, always use the handle.

x Remove pressure when Enviro X-press has to be maintenance.

x In any case, never put objects into Enviro X-press except of plastic, paper and
cardboard.

x If the sack with waste is going to garbage incineration, use transparent sacks and
check if there is harmful waste which isn’t fit for incineration.

x If the sack is not going to be incinerated, please be environmentally conscious and

make sure that any other objects is not going together with plastic, paper and
cardboard.

x If bad weather, please pay attention that the weight of the barrel is increasing
and we recommend to keep the barrel in locket position under the piston.

9
Chapter 6
Maintenance

x Usually it isn’t any kind of maintenance than to keep it clean if the compressed
air is dry.

x If compressed air has become humid, then drain the pipes and Enviro x-press has
to run 3 or 4 times empty.

x Before long-term storage it is recommendable to supply with some oil. Oil has to
be intended to pneumatic equipment or similar equipment as compressors and
fog lubricators. Compressed air has to have more than 0 (cero) centigrade and
the x-press has to run two times.

x It is recommendable to supply oil intended to pneumatic equipment or similar

equipment as mention above every 6th month.

x To keep clean it is recommendable to use scouring powder as JIF or similar

detergent. Afterwards rinse and wipe off.

x By storage less than one month, it is not necessary to do any routines except of
keeping clean.

There isn’t any other maintenance than those which are listed above.
