Gedong Songo Temple

Gedong Songo Temple is a hidden paradise in Central Java. This place is located on
Candi village, district of Bandungan, the regency of Semarang, Central Java, more precisely
in slope of Mount Ungaran. Gedong Songo is derived from Javanese, Gedong means
building, and Songo is nine, so Gedong Songo means nine buildings. The Temple is located
on 1200 meters over the sea level. This temple was discovered by Raffles on 1804. This
temple is the artefact of the Hindhu Culture from the time of Wangsa Syailendra in 9th
century.

In this place, your eyes will be spoiled with the natural landscape, like you can see
the sunset in the mountain. If you are lazy to walk around the temple, the temple has been
providing horse as a means of you around the place. Rates for renting a horse varies, ranging
from 30 thousand to 100 thousand. In the afternoon, many grilled corn sellers can be found
selling the grilled corns in the slope of Gedong Songo Temple. Maybe you can drink the
ginger milk with the grilled corn. If you can go to this place, you must bring the jackets,
because the temperature in this place is very low about 19-27 degrees celcius.

To go to this place, you need 40 minutes from Ambarawa City. The road to this
place is very challenging because the slope is very sharp (on average 40 degrees). From
Semarang to this place, us can reach 45 km and from Ambarawa, us reach 15 km. That’s all i
