Guided Practice
How will you have students practice the strategy with support?
● Students will begin by filling out the beginning parts of the KWL
● This can be done by the students just looking over the article and understanding
the basics of what it is looking to talk about.
● Using this strategy with guided instruction students can focus on the parts of the
chart instead of the whole chart at once.
Strategy Application
How will students apply the strategy independently?
● Students can use this strategy Independently by taking articles they’re asked to
read as homework and other classes and presenting them in a similar way when
asked to reflect on what was learned from the reading.
● Students can also apply this strategy independently by helping them in
understanding basic knowledge that they already know in a deeper aspect of the
content
Reflection Write a 2-3 paragraph detailed reflection about your teaching experience based off your
own self-assessment.
● How did the structure (awareness & explanation, demonstration & modeling, guided practice,
application) help support your instruction and student learning?
○ I think the fact that the students in this situation couldn’t see me on the video I was harder to demonstrate
this type of instruction. Math is a lot harder to do things online without visual representation as you do it.
As without that, there may be points where you lose students and the instruction on aware of where you
have lost them.
● How does this strategy support learning in your discipline specifically?
○ This strategy helps me in developing an understanding of where the students know before going into a
lesson. For example, if I were teaching concepts of the Pythagorean theorem and I know when starting the
lesson that students can find the square values and square root function it would be a lot easier to start
but not assuming at all. Starting a the very beginning learning that they know it without anything
prepared to move forward faster than anticipated.
● What were your strengths, and areas for growth (please consider both your planning and your
instruction of the strategy)?
○ I think I could grow in every aspect of this idea of a think-aloud. Possibly if I was in a better mindset going
into the assignment I would've been more successful and allowed for a better understanding of where I
can improve and where they have the greatest strength in the idea.
