Worksheet 1B: Punctuating direct speech

Rewrite the passage below using correct direct speech punctuation and layout.

Well, what have you learnt from your experiences this winter asked Ant with a
smirk. I’ve learnt a lot claimed Grasshopper. I’ve learnt that I can’t enjoy myself
all summer and have enough food for winter. Too right! snapped Ant. Summer
is not for enjoying yourself. Summer is for hard work. Oh dear! sighed
Grasshopper mournfully. I don’t think I’m ever going to last through a winter.
I can’t bear the thought of not singing, dancing and playing when the weather is
warm and sunny. Ant replied that is foolish talk. No wonder grasshoppers never
last. But when do you enjoy yourself, Ant? asked Grasshopper, confused.
