The flood that hit Kampung Badwi was devastating.

In
November, the entire community was devastated by ten days
of nonstop rain. Many villagers were displaced from their
houses. I chose to aid the flood victims as a volunteer.
What I witnessed astounded me. The sudden flood was
powerful enough to wash away houses. One house had
collapsed and was lying on its side. The earth was literally
touched by the first storey.
Furniture, including electrical appliances, was wrecked by
the floodwaters. Furniture and things that were lighter
drifted through the streets and into the river. Rubbish was
also strewn about. The stink was terrible.
Many farm animals died as a result of the fire. Chickens
died as a result of being trapped in their coops. In the
floodwaters, cows swam.
Villagers shouted out for help as young children screamed
out from hunger and discomfort. Everything was dripping
wet.
Although it was a dismal experience, it taught me to be
grateful for what I had.
