2. Line spacing should be 1.5 times
3. The assignment should always have the cover page which is given by the instructor
4. All details regarding name and signature must be filled in
5. Assignments should be done on A4 size paper
6. Every page should have a footer which details the assignment name, your name and the page number
7. The first page should be the index or contents page with the page numbers
8. The next page should have the introduction which is what the assignment is about and what you are planning to
write. This can be brief
9. Next comes the body of the assignment. Clear drawings should be included in the body
10. References may be used from text books and the internet or other sources. However, references have to be made for
the information used. This may be done by annotating each copied paragraph / picture and listing them on the last
page under the title reference.
11. A conclusion should be presented at the end followed by the reference page if used.
12. ASSIGNMENTS ARE VERY IMPORTANT IN YOUR FINAL GRADING SO DO ENSURE THE DEADLINES SET ON THE
COVERSHEET OR BY YOUR INSTRUCTOR ARE MET.
Plagiarism
Plagiarism is defined as the presentation of another person’s work as your own. It is a particular form of cheating. Plagiarism
must be avoided at all costs and students who break the rules, however innocently, may be penalised. It is your
responsibility to ensure that you understand correct referencing practices. As a university level student, you are expected to
use appropriate references throughout and keep carefully detailed notes of all your sources of materials for material you
have used in your work, including any material downloaded from the Internet.

In this be the case, Emirates Aviation University considers plagiarism as theft and any student found to have plagiarised
would be awarded an automatic fail for the piece of work submitted and may be excluded from further study at the
University.

Late Assignments

If your assignments are not submitted on time and you have not received an extension, you will normally be penalized 10%

 Unit Code/Level 314SE / Level 3

 Outcome 3,4 Aircraft systems

According to the Air Transport Association, a person could fly every day for 3,859 years without
being involved in an aircraft accident. That's an accident rate of one accident for every 1.4
million flights based on 2009 data.

Air travel today remains safe, thanks in part to accident investigation. Findings from accident
investigators pave the way for changes to be made in aviation, such as changes to pilot duty,
Maintenance requirements and priorities etc… These changes are improving technology,
preventing accidents and saving lives.

In light of commercial aircraft accidents and incidents, lots of improvements to aircraft system
technology have been made. These improvements have played a significant role in reducing
and maintaining the aircraft incident / accident rates globally. In this assignment you are
requested to make a full study of at least 1 aircraft accident due to system failure. Your
assignment will be divided in two main aspects: the Mechanical/Theoretical aspect and the
actual investigation.

1) Describe the accident in full detail

 Summarize/Highlight the major points of the accident reports.
 State clearly the accident finding in the reports.
 Briefly outline the report structure of an accident investigation.
 Evaluate the recommendations raised with the existing regulation governing the
operation.
 How these specific accidents have changed civil aviation regulations globally.

2) Explain how the system should have worked in normal situations

 Discuss in details the structure of the system(s).
 Evaluate the system operation.

3) Explain the reason which led to this failure

 Identify the component(s) which lead to this failure.
 Analyse the effect of the failed component on the rest of the system.
 Evaluate the effect of the failed system on the performance of the aircraft.

4) Conclusion and Recommendation

 Improving the system operation.
 Reducing the incident/accident rate.
