Masculinity vs. Femininity
• The masculinity / femininity dimension considers a series of dominant
values in society, determined primarily by the social division of roles
between the sexes.
• Male-type societies emphasize values such as: getting money,
subordination and indifference to others, the prototype being the
successful director, the performer.
• In women's societies, the dominant values are harmonious interpersonal
relationships, environmental conservation and quality of life.
• Influences on the management of the organization refer in particular to the
motivation system, the organizational climate and the leadership style.

Masculinity
• The delimitation of this dimension is made according to the
social division of roles.
• Masculin societies, which seek to maximize the division of roles
between the sexes, are a minority.
Masculinity index
• The highest degree of masculinity - marked with 95 - is
presented by Japan, a country whose management has made a
major contribution to the most impressive economic leap made
by any country in the modern era.
• Other countries with a high rate of masculinity are: Germany,
Switzerland, Austria, as well as some Latin countries - Italy,
Venezuela, Mexico, to which is added the U.S.A. and Canada.
Masculine characteristics
• Specific to these countries is the importance given to the facade
elements, to the realization of visible works, to the material gains.
• In terms of management, there is a strong division of labor within
organizations.
• strongest have access to leadership positions, in the exercise of
which they focus on achieving results. Stimulating myths and legends
are created around the best.
Femininity index
• A pronounced femininity character presents the Scandinavian
countries - Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, to which are
added the Netherlands and Costa Rica.
• In these countries, great emphasis is placed, both on the
management processes and outside them on personal
relationships, which have priority over those that generate
money.
Femininity characteristics
• The objectives and major concerns of the management refer to ensuring
those around them, especially the weakest, to protect the environment.
• Social sympathy is channeled not towards "supermen", but towards the
oppressed, the brilliance and special personal achievements being often
viewed with suspicion.
• Hence, the broad appeal to the values and norms of participatory
management, the promotion in management positions of people with
special qualities and psycho-sociological training. Agreed political systems
are based on social democracy.
