ELT 303
MODULE 1 ACTIVITY SHEET
Instructions: Out from the following genres discussed in the module, choose at
least two (2) and provide an example (either book, movie, novel, etc.) of each of
the chosen genres. Then, explain why you consider it as an example of that
chosen genre.
Genre 1: Action/Adventure
EXPLANATION: There must be a threat. The heroes must be enlisted. The villain
must be dramatized. Some personality flaws must be probed. And then there is
the final hour or so of special effects in which large mechanical objects engage in
combat, resulting in deafening crashes, explosions, and great balls of fire.
GENRE 2: Detective/Mystery
EXPLANATION: Scooby Doo took on the otherworldly, followed clues, and figured
out who was behind it all. The mysteries were set in eerie houses, dark
woodlands on full moon nights, crumbling ghost towns, or desolate museums
and circus grounds, which made up for the show's predictability. Scooby Doo
pretended to be a cartoon mystery but was actually unexpectedly gloomy, rife
with tension and tinged with terror that was diluted down with slapstick comedy.

MODULE 2 ACTIVITY SHEET
Instruction: Choose at least one (1) from following written works discussed earlier
and compose a short literary analysis using a specific literary approach (cited in
module 1 ) in critiquing the contemporary literature. Present your analysis in a
precise and direct manner (maximum of 5 sentences only).
Short Analysis: It has an intriguing phraseology, and curiosity is one of the most
potent effects that keeps us intrigued. Malorie's early attitudes and her personality
getting stronger as events unfold are two of the strongest examples of development
in the novel. It has one of the most engrossing plots of any of the books I've read so
far. The tale brilliantly illustrates how afraid people and animals are about something
they can't see. This is a book that deserves every accolade it has gotten. It is without a
doubt one of the most excellent horror stories ever penned.

MODULE 3 ACTIVITY SHEET
Instructions: Choose at least one (1) novel/story in the literary genres discussed,
and identify its characteristics, its forms, and emerging themes of the literary
work.
Instructions: Analyze the two literary works and identify the symbols (object,
person, etc.) used by the author to drive home a message. Cite only one (1)
symbolism found on each of the literary piece below and paste the image of
symbol. After that, state its corresponding meaning with maximum of 3
sentences only.
Symbolism:
Freedom
Maya Angelou utilizes trapped and free birds to represent the desire for
liberation. The poem uses the symbolism of a caged bird and a free bird to depict
the contrast between captivity and freedom, as well as their dreams and wishes.
The imprisoned bird sings for freedom," writes Dunbar, in the same way that
Maya strives for the freedom to pursue her dreams. The caged bird could also
represent other people, such as Uncle Willie, who is crippled, or Daddy Bailey,
who has never been allowed to live the life he desires.
The Guardians by John Grisham
Symbolism:
