I am an agriculture teacher in one of Vocational High school in


Jember.

Today im gonna show you the making process of special brand new “oleh-oleh” of Jember.

I think it is really worth for you to know. Do you know why?

Because it is about to add a new value of you potential local product. And this new is so delicious
that you cant deny its lusciousness.

Hmm… don’t you feel curious about that? Lets go check it out…

Jember , is a small district with a great mixture culture called pandhalungan. Jember mostly known
as a Tobacco city, or suwar suwir city, It’s a special candy that made from tape, a fermented cassava.

Actually , Jember is also one of the producer of oranges that called Jeruk Semboro. It has a special
character that made the oranges lover feel addicted to it.

The special character of the oranges are the color of the peel. Mostly stay yellowish green even if it
is mature. The mature oranges taste very sweet.

Unfortunately, the prize of the oranges is not as sweet as it taste.

Some times it taste so bitter that the orange farmer feel so disappointed. During the first period of
the pandemic, The price of the oranges reach the lowest price level. It was priced only around 1000
rupiah.

Can you imagine that?

So, What can we do about that?

Humans always innovate if they are in a forced condition. This sentence is really true.

An author Peter Drucker said “ innovate or die ”. Innovation, by definition, is the


introduction of something new. Without innovation, there isn't anything new, and without
anything new, there will be no progress.

The unstable price of Semboro Oranges needs has became a force to us. We need to innovate.

Let me introduce you to Bu Novi, the creator of jeruk semboro marmalade “Swegerray “

That idea came 2 years ago from the sadness feeling while her husband bring a lot of oranges back
home. Bu novi has a knowledge about preserve technique of fruits. So, she realized the idea of
making the oranges preserved that is oranges marmalade.

The process of making this marmalade is very easy. You just peel the oranges, and take the pulp out.
Add some sugar and pectin to make the texture thick. No need more additivie chemical ingredients.
If its thickened, and the texture is good enough, Put the marmalade into a glass bottle, and then you
sterilize it by boiling it for 30 minutes. And then… Its doneee…!

Hmm…. Yummy….It taste so good. You should try it. Just eat it with bread, or ice cream. And im
