SELF CHECK and SELF REFLECT

INSTRUCTIONS: Answer the questions carefully. You can use another sheet
of paper for your answer.
1. How did Aristotle describe politics?
Answer: In his works Aristotle then described and say that politics has its
role and that is the political community must play in bringing about the
virtuous life in the citizenry. He observed that “man is by nature is a political
animal” Moreover, he also stated that politics involves enduring laws,
customs, and institutions including a system of moral education for the
citizens. Once the constitution is in place, the politician needs to take the
appropriate measures to maintain it, to introduce reforms when he finds them
necessary, and to prevent developments which might subvert the political
system.

2. Why is CITIZENSHIP the basic identification with the nation?

Answer: Citizenship is a relationship between an individual and a state to
which the individual owes allegiance and in turn is entitled to its protection. It
is said to be the basic identification with the nation because it determines the
conditions under which it will recognize persons as its citizens, and the
conditions under which that status will be withdrawn. Becoming a citizen, will
let a person enjoy his/her civil and political rights, including protection inside
and outside the territory of the state. Recognition by a state as a citizen
generally carries with it recognition of civil, political, and social rights which
are not afforded to non-citizens. Individuals are defined by the political
community to which they belong themselves and give them the chance to
fulfill their affiliation needs. People will rely on their political beliefs and ideals
to make decisions. To distinguish themselves as distinct members of society,
they must have a belief system.

3. The term POLITICS constitute what concepts?

Answer: Politics can be found in each human society. It is how people gain
power and influence. Politics encompasses the actions of cooperation,
negotiation, and conflict within and between communities, in which individuals
organize the use, production, or distribution of human, natural, and other
resources to produce and reproduce their biological and social lives. As a
citizen, one should have a good understanding of how a democratic society
works. It is a collection of behaviors linked with group decision-making or
other forms of power interactions between individuals, such as resource
distribution or status. It can be used constructively to refer to a "political
solution" that is cooperative and nonviolent, or descriptively to refer to
"government art or science."

4. For you personally, which among this social structure affect a person’s
political self the most.
a. Family
b. Church
c. Social/Mass Media
Answer: For me Social/Mass media is the social structure that greatly affects
person’s political self the most, it is because the mass media is a source of
political information as well as a shaper of political ideals and ideas. Various
media channels give distinct party policy viewpoints that are related with
political participation through news coverage and late-night programs. The
media continues to play a role in political socialization through both fictional
and factual media sources. People are increasingly exposed to news and
political information incorporated in entertainment; the most prevalent source
of political knowledge is fictional entertainment mainly television. The values
and standards by which people judge are formed because of the knowledge
obtained from social/mass media.

4. Pick one theory among the theories of political self that you like the
most and explain why. (One paragraph or more).
Answer:
From the Four theories about the political self the social learning theory
is what I like the most because it was very relatable for me being an
adolescent in shaping my political views and ideals by means of observing in
the environment and what other persons is constantly doing. By this theory I
can learn the things that I don’t know by only looking and observing, which
makes it very convenient and the much easier way to obtain knowledge and
information. This is a very important factor for us to be more knowledgeable
about the politics because by this theory we come to exercise social
interaction, thus we developed ourselves by also imitating others but in a good
way. One example of it was having a good father as the role model of a family,
because of it the children can make his father as an example of a good leader
as well as policy maker because in a house there are also rules, which then
can be a factor for the child to develop that same kind of character and
capability when the time comes that he is now in the position of having a
family. By observing what is happening in the society one can make a great
conclusion in making a positive solution to the issues and problems of the
nation, thus it will lead for a person to engage his/herself in a more complex
field of study of governance and policy making which is the politics. By gaining
this kind of ambition and realization in life through social learning theory there
will come a time that in our nation the Philippines the political system will then
become as perfect as its politician and law makers because we then come in
a realization that what is good and righteous is what should be implemented
for the benefit of all through the observation and imitation that we have
learned in the social learning theory.
