Title of the Laboratory Exercise:

Performing basic arithmetic, statistical, logical, lookup, text and financial functions and
creating charts
1. Introduction and Purpose of Experiment

Microsoft Excel allows to create professional spreadsheets and charts. In this laboratory
exercise, students get familiar to perform basic arithmetic, statistical, logical, lookup,
text and financial functions on the given data.

2. Aim and Objectives

Aim

 To perform basic arithmetic, statistical and financial functions using MS Excel

Objectives

At the end of this lab, the student will be able to:

 Perform basic arithmetic, statistical and financial functions on the given data

3. Experimental Procedure
Students are expected to use the appropriate functions based on the questions
provided to you

4. Write up on Steps Followed -

Q1)

a) Fill the table with employee ID, employee name and basic salary.

b) For DA enter the formula =Basic Salary*75/100 for all the rows

c) For HRA enter the formula =Basic Salary*15/100 for all the rows.

d) Calculate the Gross Salary by formula =SUM(Basic Salary+DA+HRA)

e) Show the employees in three grades based on the gross salary using the NESTED IF
function.

f) For making the bar chart, select the employee name and gross salary column and go to
insert -> Bar chart and then format.

g) Calculate the total gross salary by the formula =SUM(all rows of gross salary) which is
G3:G12

h) Calculate the average gross salary by using the formula =AVERAGE(G3:G12)

i) Calculate the maximum gross salary by using the formula =MAX(G3:G12)

j) Calculate the minimum gross salary by using the formula =MIN(G3:G12)

a) Use the formula =PMT (rate, nper, pv,[fv],[type]) to calculate the periodic instalment
payment
b) Use the formula =IPMT (rate, per, nper, pv,[fv],[type]) to calculate the Interest paid
for the 6th period

a) Fill up the rows and columns with different items and prices.
b) In a separate column, go to Data -> Data Validation -> Under allow – make it List and
select the list of items.
c) Sort the whole table by “Values”
d) Use the VLOOKUP function to see the prices of different products.

6. Results and Outcomes

The Result and outcome is that I have learnt how to use SUM, Percentage, IF, Nested IF,
AVG, MIN, MAX formulas and how to create Bar Chart. I have also learnt how to use the PMT
and IPMT formulas to calculate the periodic instalment payment and interest paid for a
period. I have also understood how to use VLOOKUP Function.
