Product design vs industrial design

Product design is primarily concerned with the user interaction and involves research,
observation and prototyping Industrial design can incorporate product design but is usually also
more concerned with the wider view of how a product works and is manufactured An industrial
designer can be a product designer, but a product designer cannot be an industrial designer”, “A
product designer needs no knowledge of manufacturing processes or CAD.
‘product design’ range from a focus on creating conceptual renders to the entire process of
production. Product design is about creating solutions; industrial design is about taking those
solutions through manufacture and to the end user.

History of the industrial revolution

first industrial revolution occurred in Britain, during the eighteenth century; it represents the
social, economic, and technological changes that a-ected all Europe, and with the pass of time,
were going to a-ect North America too new ways of work were developed, which re
duced the working hours without a-ecting the amount of production. It is important to have in
mind that this new instauration of order was not happening in a fast way and it required so many
years to obtain a notorious process, which meant something more than a revolution.

The industrial revolution transformed completely a nation full of farmers and craftsmen into the
workforce nation, with some new revolutionary machines (steam machine and knitting mach
ine, among other inventions). Some of the most important characteristics of the first industrial
revolution were: the use of the motor force in the industry, the development of the manufacturing
system, and the speed improvement in transport and communications, among others.
The second industrial revolution occurred in the United States. The innovative technology was
the electric energy. It happened during the 1850–1870s period, until the rst world war in 1914
The innovative technologies were based basically on the newest energy sources, such as fossil
fuels, the use of new materials to improve machines(like iron), and new transport and
communication systems (railroads and steamboats).
The third industrial revolution focused on the development of digital technologies, a notorious
improvement in the communication, the development of the Internet, the development of
networks, and the new removable energies. These one appeared during the twentieth century, but
it was not approved until June 2006, by the European Parliament.
The fourth and last industrial revolution brought advice and forecast into the system. This new
age of revolution is based on the creation of an integrative and collaborative environment, with
the intention to add cyber physical systems and to consider the customer as part of the production
process.
