Concept of data processing.

A computer is an electronic machine that can do fast and correct calculations in addition to many
works.

The word ‘Computer ‘ comes from a Greek word “Compute”which means to calculate.

A computer can not understand our language .Whatever instructions we give ,it converts them in to
binary code(0’s and 1’s).

Basic steps of data processing

A computer follows three steps to perform any task.

They are :- 1) Input 2) Process 3) output

1.Input:-Takes instructions from you .It means typing data into the computer through keyboare.

Data means raw fact or figure.

2.Process:-Solve the problem. It means calculating or sorting the data using CPU.
3.Output:-Gives you the result . It means giving results of processed data throught monitors.Thus
,information is processes data.

Any machine works on the principle of Input,process,output.

Example 1. ATM

Input: ATM card Process: ATM Machine Output: Notes(Birr)

Similarly, a computer is also a machine that carries out some functions .It also follows the three
steps:

For example ,if you want to add two numbers (5 and 3) on the computer, then it works as:

Input:Type 5,3,addition sign throught the keyboard

Process: the computer now adds the numbers.

Output: The result of adding 5and 3 is 8.It is the outcome of processing that appears on your
monitor. This result is called output.

Comparison between Human being and computer.

1.Humanbeing works slowly but computer works fast

2.Human being can imagine and think but Computer cannot imagine and think.

3. Human being gets tired and bored of doing the same work after some time but Compute does not
get tired and bored of doing the same work even after a long period of time.

4. Human being cannot do different types of work at the same time but computers can do.

5. Human being some times goes wrong but computer remains always accurate.

6.Human being can remember limiter information but computer can stord lots of information.
