INTERNET
 The word internet comes from the phrase ”Interconnection of networks”.
 The Internet consists of thousands, millions of connected networks around the world.
 A network is a collection of computers that are connected to share information ,software,
hardware.
 Internet is the biggest computer network in the world.

The world wide web (WWW)can be used to access information that sits on the internet.
Important terms .
 Downloading: receiving information on your local computer from a networked computer.
 Uploading: sending data from your local computer to a network computer.
 Transfer rate :is the speed with which data is downloaded and uploaded by your computer.

What does the Internet offer?

1. Online shopping:- This is the ability to purchase goods and services on the internet without
leaving your desk.
2. Electronic Banking( E-banking):-enables customers to access their accounts via the Internet.
3. Electronic Mail(E-mail):-You can exchange electronic mail with people around the world. E-
mail is fast, easy, inexpensive and saves paper.
4. Entertainment:-thousands of games are available free of charge on the Internet . Using the
Internet, you can review current movies, listen to television, songs etc.
5. Information:-The Internet gives you access to information on any subject imaginable. You
can review newspaper, magazines, academic paper etc.
6. Discussion group:-You can join discussion groups on the Internet to meet people around the
world with similar interests.
