1. The Internet : The term ‘Internet’ stands for


International network. The Internet is a
global network that connects people from
different parts of the world and allows
sharing of large amount of information.
It connects millions of computers around the
world.
2. E-mail: Electronic mail is one of the fastest
ways of exchanging digital messages.
Through e-mail ,messages can be sent to any
part of the world in an instant. It is a faster
and cheaper method of communicating
messages as compared to postal services.

3. Search Engine: Search engine is a tool that


searches the Internet to find information on
the basis of the keywords provided by the
users. Eg: MSN, google

4. Online shopping: Online shopping can be


defined as purchasing of products or getting
services over the Internet. It helps
consumers to purchase products over the
Internet from the comfort of their homes.

5. E-commerce: E- commerce means buying


and selling of products and services online.
It also refers to the transmitting of funds
over the Internet.

6. Electronic transfer: Electronic funds transfer


system is a valuable service provided by
banks to transfer funds to other bank
branches with the click of a mouse instantly.
It is simple, secure, safe, fast and cost
effective way to transfer funds.

on the Internet.

our friends and relatives by using an
e-mail.
c. We can watch movies and play computer
games on the Internet.
d. We can chat on the Internet and make new
friends.
e. We can buy things on the Internet
(e-shopping)

2. An e-mail address is composed of three


main parts. Explain them.
An e-mail address is composed of three
main parts:

Username: Username can be any name that


we choose , provided that it is not already in
use by somebody else in your domain.

Eg: abhinav2020@gmail.com , here


abhinav2020 is the user name.

@: The username is always followed by the


symbol @ which seperates the username
from rest of the e-mail address.

Host: This is the name of the server that


sends and receives e-mail messages. In the
example gmail is the name of the host.

Site: The extreme right hand side of an


e-mail address specifies the type of site. In
this example .com stands for the site.

3. Give three advantages and three


disadvantages of an e-mail.

Advantages:
1. Emails are very efficient as they can be
sent to a group of people simultaneously.
2. It is versatile in nature. We can send
pictures along with the text messages.
3. E-mails can be sent any time of the day or
night, throughout the year.

Disadvantages:
1. E-mails can be time-consuming when
answering complicated questions.
2. E-mail attachments can contain viruses.
3. E-mail can be impersonal and easily
misunderstood by people.
