Answer
1. Asentence is the largest unit ofany language. In English, it begins with acapital letter
and ends with a full-stop, or aquestion mark, or anexclamation mark. Thesentenceis
generally defined as a word or a group of words that expresses a thorough idea by
giving a statement/order, or asking a question, or exclaiming.

Types of Sentences
Structurally, sentences are of four types:
1. Simple sentence
2. Compound sentence
3. Complex sentence
4. Compound-complex sentence.

 Simple sentence
Asimple senten cemust have a single clause (a single verb) which is independent, and it
cannot take another clause.
Example:I always wanted to become a writer. (One clause –one verb)
 Compound sentence
Acompound sentence must have more than one independent clause with no dependent
clauses. Some specific conjunctions, punctuation, or both are used to join together these
clauses.
Example: Ialways wanted to become a writer, and she wanted to become a doctor. (Two
independent clauses –two verbs)

 Complex sentence
A complex sentence also has more than one clause but of one them must be an
independent clause and the other/others must be (a) dependent clause(es). There are also
some particular connectors for the clauses of a complex sentence to be connected.
Example: I know that you always wanted to be a writer. (Here, a dependent clause is
followed by a connector and an independent clause. The other way around is also
possible.)

 Compound- complex sentence

Acompound- complex sentence (orcomplex–compound sentence) is a mixture of the
features of compound and complex sentences in one sentence. So, it must contain at least
two independent clauses and at least one dependent clause.
Example: I know that you always wanted to become a writer, but I always wanted to
become a doctor. (Here, one dependent clause is followed by a complex connector and
two independent clauses with a compound conjunction between them.)

Functionally, sentences are of mainly four types: 1.Declarative sentence

2. Imperative sentence
3. Interrogative sentence
4. Exclamatory sentence

 Declarative sentence:
An assertive sentence (declarative sentence) simply expresses an opinion/feeling, or
makes a statement, or describes things. In other words, it declares something. This type of
sentence ends with a period (i.e., a full-stop).
Examples:
1. I want to be a good cricketer. (a statement)
2. I am very happy today. (a feeling)

 Imperative sentence:
We use animperative sentenceto make a request or to give a command. Imperative
sentencesusually endwith a period (i.e., a full stop),but under certain circumstances, it
canend with a note of exclamation (i.e., exclamation mark).
Examples:
1. Please sit down.
2. I need you to sit down now!

 Interrogative sentence:
Aninterrogative sentenceasks a question. Interrogative sentences must end with a note of
interrogation (i.e., question mark)
Examples:

2. I cannot believe he would do that!

2. Readingis the complex cognitive process of decoding symbols to derive meaning. It is a

form of language processing. Success in this process is measured as reading
comprehension. Reading is a means for language acquisition, communication, and
sharing information and ideas. The symbols are typically visual (written or printed) but may
be tactile (Braille). Like all languages, it is a complex interaction between text and
reader, shaped by prior knowledge, experiences, attitude, and the language
community — which is culturally and socially situated.

Reading is typically an individual activity, though on occasion a person reads out loud
for other listeners. Reading aloud for one's own use, for better comprehension, is a form
of intrapersonal communication: in the early 1970 shas been proposed thedual-route
hypothesis to reading aloud, accordingly to which there were two separate mental
mechanisms, or cognitive routes, that are involved in this case, with output of both mechanisms
contributing to the pronunciation of a written stimulus.

3. SPEAKING or the SPEAKING model, is a model socio-linguistic study (represented as a

mnemonic) developed by Dell Hymes. Hymes developed this model as part of a new
methodology referred to as the ethnography of speaking. This model is a tool to assist the
identification and labeling of components of interactional linguistics that was driven by his view
that, in order to speak a language correctly, one needs not only to learn its vocabulary and
grammar, but also the context in which words are used. In essence, the learning the components
of the SPEAKING model is essential for linguistic competence Listening is interpretting and
reacting to a message received from the speaker Listening is the process of receiving ,
constructing meaning from, and responding to spoken and/or nonverbal messages

4. My Holiday with My Family at Cemara kembar Beach

Last month was New Year holiday. I and my family went to Cemara kembar beach for a
vacation. We took a cars to go there. We left at 07.00 o’clock in the morning. The trip took about
four hours and we arrived at around 11.00 am.

As we arrived there, I walked down to the beach. It was a nice sunny day with a blue sky and
a gentle breeze. I saw some seagulls flew around hunting for fish. The waves there were suitable
for swimming, but I didn’t swim because I couldn’t swim and only play with the water on
shallow part and I Playing football with my family. We also didn’t miss our opportunity here
taking some pictures with the background of scenic Cemara kembar beach.

Before we went home, I looked for some beautiful souvenir at the nearby shop there.
Eventually, we went home at about 05.00 pm. It was a memorable experience for me with my
family.
