Meeting 11 : Simple Regression test

1. Formulate the research objective.
Answer :
The researcher wants to see whether there is a significant relationship between self-
efficacy and writing performance in L2 writing class.

2. Determine the variables of the study

Answer :
2. Indipendent variable : Self

Efficacy

Dependent variable : Writing

3. Do the assumption tests for linier regression such as normality, linearity,

heterocedasticity, outlier
Answer :

4. Demonstrate step by step the procedure of conducting simple linier regression

analysis to answer the research question
Answer :
a. Enter fictitious data into SPSS (in this tutorial using SPSS Version 21)

b. On the Menu Bar, select Analyze > Regression > Linear

c. A window like the one below will appear:

d. Then, enter the Y variable into the Dependent section and the X1, X2, X3, X4, and
X5 variables into the Independent section, then click OK.

5. Write the model of Regression equality

Answer :

a. Dependent Variable: Writing
b. Predictors: (Constant), Self Efficacy

From the output, it is known that the F value is 114.694 with a significance level of
0.000 < 0.05, then the regression model can be used to predict the writing variable or in
other words there is an effect of the Self efficacy variable (X) on the writing variable
(Y).

6. How much the value of Determinant Coefficient (R2)? What does it mean?
Answer : 0,897

7. How many percent the effective contribution of both attitude and self-efficacy to
writing performance.
Answer : 80,4 %

8. Complete the summary table

Answer :

9. Interpret the result of analysis

Answer :

From the output Simple Regression test, it is known that the F value is 114.694 with a
significance level of 0.000 < 0.05, then the regression model can be used to predict the
writing variable or in other words there is an effect of the Self efficacy variable (X) on
the writing variable (Y).
10. Give a report on the analysis result
Answer :

Then the regression model can be used to predict the writing variable or in other words
there is an effect of the Self efficacy variable (X) on the writing variable (Y).
