BALLROOM DANCE

• a type of dancing in which a man and a


woman dance together using fixed
sequences of steps and movements.
• term derived from the word BALL that
originated from the Latin word BALLARE
which means to dance.
• Originally practiced in Europe and the
United States, that is performed by couples
and follows prescribed steps.
• Dances developed from old European folk
dances.

BALLROOM DANCES
• WALTZ - a slow progressive dance where
movements are long and flowing moves.
With turns being continuous with many
rises and falls. It is known to be graceful
and elegant.
• VIENNESE WALTZ – like the waltz it is
slow and has a romantic element to it,
although it is slightly faster.
• TANGO –A very emotional dance and this
should be conveyed. Expressing an element
of romance in their synchronized
movements.
• FOXTROT – it has a smooth progressive
dance with long, continuous flowing
movements. Fairly simple walking and side
steps
• QUICKSTEP – Characterized through a
sequence of quick steps and quick footwork
while keeping in sync with the music

BALLROOM DANCES
• CHA-CHA-CHA – playful dance and
requires small steps and lots of hip motion.
• SAMBA – a Brazilian dance, where it
involves the celebrate and joy at a Carnival
celebrations in Rio. It has lively and
rhythmical beat.
• RUMBA – is a very slow, serious, romantic
dance with flirtation between the partners.
• PASA DOBLE – it models the sound,
drama, and movement of Spanish and
Portuguese Bullfights
• JIVE – the basic look and feel of Jive is lots
and lots of energy, with the legs portraying
a pumping action

that of a square or box. It is used in a
number of American Style ballroom
dances.
