SECTION 4: First aid measures

General information IF exposed or concerned: Get medical advice/attention. If you feel unwell, seek medical advice
(show the label where possible). Ensure that medical personnel are aware of the material(s)
involved, and take precautions to protect themselves. Show this safety data sheet to the doctor in
attendance.
4.1. Description of first aid measures
Inhalation Move to fresh air. Call a physician if symptoms develop or persist. In case of exposure to fumes or
particulates: Get medical attention immediately.
Skin contact Contact with dust: Remove and isolate contaminated clothing and shoes. Wash off with soap and
water. Get medical attention if irritation develops and persists. In case of contact with molten
product, cool rapidly with water and seek immediate medical attention. Do not attempt to remove
molten product from skin because skin will tear easily.
Eye contact Do not rub eyes. Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Remove any
contact lenses, if present and easy to do, and open eyes wide apart. Get medical attention if
irritation develops and persists. If molten material contacts the eye, immediately flush with plenty of
water for at least 15 minutes. Get medical attention immediately.
Ingestion Do not induce vomiting. Rinse mouth thoroughly if dust is ingested. If vomiting occurs, keep head
low so that stomach content doesn't get into the lungs. Get medical attention if symptoms occur.
4.2. Most important symptoms Dusts may irritate the respiratory tract, skin and eyes. Ingestion of dusts generated during working
and effects, both acute and operations may cause nausea and vomiting. Prolonged exposure may cause chronic effects. The
delayed principal symptoms of lead poisoning are gastro-intestinal or central nervous system disturbances
and anemia.
4.3. Indication of any Provide general supportive measures and treat symptomatically. Keep victim under observation.
immediate medical attention Symptoms may be delayed.
and special treatment needed

SECTION 5: Firefighting measures

General fire hazards Solid metal is not flammable; however, finely divided metallic dust or powder may form an
explosive mixture with air.
5.1. Extinguishing media
Suitable extinguishing Water fog. Foam. Dry chemical powder. Carbon dioxide (CO2).
media
Unsuitable extinguishing Do not use water jet as an extinguisher, as this will spread the fire. Do not use water or
media halogenated extinguishing media, where molten material are present. Do not use water on molten
metal: Explosion hazard could result.
5.2. Special hazards arising During fire, gases hazardous to health may be formed. Metal oxides. Lead fumes.
from the substance or mixture
5.3. Advice for firefighters
Special protective Self-contained breathing apparatus and full protective clothing must be worn in case of fire.
equipment for firefighters
Special fire fighting Stay upwind. Keep unnecessary personnel away. Move containers from fire area if you can do so
procedures without risk.
Specific methods Use standard firefighting procedures and consider the hazards of other involved materials.

SECTION 6: Accidental release measures

6.1. Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures
For non-emergency Keep unnecessary personnel away. Keep people away from and upwind of spill/leak. Wear
personnel appropriate protective equipment and clothing during clean-up. Do not breathe dust/fume. Ensure
adequate ventilation. Local authorities should be advised if significant spillages cannot be
contained.
For emergency responders Keep unnecessary personnel away. Use personal protection recommended in Section 8 of the
SDS.

6.2. Environmental precautions Avoid release to the environment. Inform appropriate managerial or supervisory personnel of all
environmental releases. Prevent further leakage or spillage if safe to do so. Avoid discharge into
drains, water courses or onto the ground.
6.3. Methods and material for Avoid dispersal of dust in the air (i.e., clearing dust surfaces with compressed air). Collect dust
containment and cleaning up using a vacuum cleaner equipped with HEPA filter. Prevent product from entering drains. Stop the
flow of material, if this is without risk.

Large Spills: Shovel the material into waste container. Following product recovery, flush area with
water.

Small Spills: Sweep up or vacuum up spillage and collect in suitable container for disposal. Clean
surface thoroughly to remove residual contamination.

Never return spills to original containers for re-use. Put material in suitable, covered, labeled
containers.

Appropriate engineering Good general ventilation (typically 10 air changes per hour) should be used. Ventilation rates
controls should be matched to conditions. If applicable, use process enclosures, local exhaust ventilation,
or other engineering controls to maintain airborne levels below recommended exposure limits. If
exposure limits have not been established, maintain airborne levels to an acceptable level. If
engineering measures are not sufficient to maintain concentrations of dust particulates below the
OEL (occupational exposure limit), suitable respiratory protection must be worn. If material is
ground, cut, or used in any operation which may generate dusts, use appropriate local exhaust
ventilation to keep exposures below the recommended exposure limits.
Individual protection measures, such as personal protective equipment
General information Use personal protective equipment as required. Personal protection equipment should be chosen
according to the CEN standards and in discussion with the supplier of the personal protective
equipment.
Eye/face protection Wear dust-resistant safety goggles where there is danger of eye contact. In addition to safety
glasses or goggles, a welding helmet with appropriate shaded shield is required during welding,
burning, or brazing. A face shield is recommended, in addition to safety glasses or goggles, during
sawing, grinding, or machining.
Skin protection
- Hand protection Wear suitable protective gloves to prevent contact, cuts and abrasions. When material is heated,
wear gloves to protect against thermal burns. Suitable gloves can be recommended by the glove
supplier.
- Other Use of an impervious apron is recommended.
Respiratory protection Chemical respirator with organic vapour cartridge, full facepiece, dust and mist filter. In case of
inadequate ventilation or risk of inhalation of dust, use suitable respiratory equipment with particle
filter (type P3). Check with respiratory protective equipment suppliers.
Thermal hazards Wear appropriate thermal protective clothing, when necessary.

Hygiene measures When using, do not eat, drink or smoke. Wash hands after handling. Launder contaminated
clothing before reuse. Private clothes and working clothes should be kept separately. Handle in
accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practices. Follow up on any medical
surveillance requirements.
Environmental exposure Contain spills and prevent releases and observe national regulations on emissions. Inform
controls appropriate managerial or supervisory personnel of all environmental releases.
