Assignment 2

Personally I find Confucianism and Taoism to be most appealing.

Contrary to how it sounds, Confucianism is actually the least

confusing of all. It may be a good idea to start with the Analects, as

it is the easiest to understand, with beliefs that are applicable to

this day. I enjoy Taoism as it is a good respite in this hectic world. If

you’re having problems with your life, Confucian philosophy will

teach you how to deal with them, while on the other hand Taoist

philosophy will teach you how to be unbothered .My Chinese friend

has told me many of the Chinese people still propagate some

Confucian or Buddhist (for those who are religious) concepts and

pass them on to their children. Confucian concepts of filial piety

and group-think tend to be more adaptable to Asian cultures which

tend to emphasize wholeness in the community and within the

family unit. .the best part of Chinese philosophy, to me, is that it

offers something Chinese scholars can cling to in face of extreme

adversity. It enables many to endue the cultural revolution without

being corrupted because the key spirit of Chinese philosophy is

independent from any politics.

Now China has achieved its modernization, at the expense of

nearly everything valuable in its traditional culture, it has the luxury

of being able to reach back for those elements compatible with

modernity in order to complete the important work of restoring to

Chinese people their Chinese identity
