information in short, simple dialogues about
someone’s hobbies and interests, if spoken
slowly and clearly and supported by pictures

PROCEDURE
WARM-UP (5-6 mins.)
1) (S-S) Refer Ss to Ex 1. Put Ss into pairs. Give them
2-3 mins. to discuss the questions, then ask
individual Ss to give feedback on their partners.
E.g. “Umut is always busy. He likes to go out. He
doesn’t have a weekend job.”
PRE LISTENING (2-3 mins.)
1) (S-S) Refer Ss to Ex 1. Put Ss into pairs. Give them
2-3 mins. to discuss the questions, then ask
individual Ss to give feedback on their partners.
E.g. “Umut is always busy. He likes to go out. He
doesn’t have a weekend job.”
PRE LISTENING (2-3 mins.)
1) (S-T, T-S) Refer Ss to Ex 2 and tell them to match
the verbs with the words to make phrases,
then tell Ss to look at the photos and match the
phrases with the photos. Give Ss only 1 min. to do
this and then check.
WHILE LISTENING (7-9 mins.)
1) (S-T, T-S) Remind Ss to focus on the names while
listening. Refer Ss to Ex 3 and tell them to write
the names of the speakers in the blanks on the
photos. Play the recording once, then check.
2) (S-S, S-T, T-S) Ss do Ex 4 individually. Play the
recording twice as necessary. Ask Ss to check
their answers in pairs before the class check.
POST LISTENING (10-12 mins.)
1) (S-T, T-S) Elicit which person Ss think has the best
weekend and why. Discuss as a class. (EX 5)
2) (S-T, T-S) The class repeat the words from the
recording using choral drilling. Then check
pronunciation individually. Play it again for Ss to

in different ways. (Ex 6)
3) (S-T, T-S) Play and pause the recording to give Ss
time to write. (Ex 7)
4) (S-T, T-S) Ss listen and check their answers.
Practise the words using choral drilling and
individual repetition. (Ex 8)
EXTRA ACTIVITY – Write these headings in three
columns on the board:

Put Ss into groups and give them 3 mins. to write
as many extra words as they can under each
heading. Elicit examples and write them up on
the board. Practise the words using choral drilling
and individual repetition.
5) (S-T, T-S) Refer Ss to Word Store 1D p.3 and look
at Ex 9. Give Ss 1 min. to complete the word store
and play the recording so that Ss listen and check
their answers. Do a quick class check.
PRODUCTION (7-10 mins.)
1) (S-S, S-T, T-S) Tell Ss that in a few minutes they
will tell each other about what they do at the
weekend. Tell Ss that they should use adverbs of
frequency and phrases from the Word Store in
their conversations. Give Ss 2 mins. to prepare
individually. Then, put them into pairs and tell
them that they must keep talking for a full 3 mins.
As Ss interact with each other, walk around taking
notes on what you hear. Ask individual Ss to give
feedback on their partners and then give some
feedback based on your notes. (Ex 10)
WRAP-UP (1-2 mins.)
1) (S-T, T-S) Ask Ss what they have done during the
lesson and what they have learnt.
HOMEWORK
1) Give Ss WB p.11 as HW.
2) Ask Ss to prepare a list of things that have to be
done in the family home.
