STRATEGIES FOR EXAM PREPARATION

Exams can be very stressful for some students. Start your preparation early so you can feel confident on
the examination day.

BE PREPARED
Start early. Don’t cram the night before. Give yourself the time to retain the information you need and give
it the meaning that will help you to solve exercises and answer questions.

It is easy to get confused. Designing a study timetable will increase your sense of control over the task
and so reduce anxiety. It will also help you to become more efficient with your time. It is important to be
realistic – Don’t set impossible goals for yourself.

You’ll be more effective if you consider the following ideas:

a. Design a study planner to organise your time. Revise lecture notes.

b. Don't cram - several reviews are more effective.

c. Don’t study for longer than 50 minutes.

d. It’s better to study for short periods with total concentration.

e. Don’t study when you’re tired. It’s better to get a good night’s sleep after a short study period, than to
continue until 2am.

f. You can alternate subjects for your study to sustain your concentration and interest.

g. Make sure you include some recreation time.

THE DAY OF THE EXAM

• Always arrive early and take some time to relax.

• Read the exam questions carefully and watch for details.

• Pay attention to your teacher’s last instructions.

• Look for clues from other questions.

• Answer all the questions.

• Maintain a positive attitude.

DON´T FORGET!

Students must write in a fountain pen, ball-point pen, or felt-tip pen. Writing in pencil is not allowed.

Write your full name on the examination paper. If you don’t do that, your exam won’t be corrected.
