FlyScan Corrective Maintenance –
the future of the Maintenance Ground Station
The recent digital revolution in the helicopter business has benefitted to the way we support operators,
as we are now able to leverage more data generated by the helicopter systems such as Flight Data
Recorders and Avionics systems (Helionix®).
This opens the way to these data exploitation to ease operations and maintenance.

In that context, Airbus has

developed a new solution to
support Line Engineers / Part145 in
their daily activities of unscheduled
maintenance, based on HUMS
data generated and collected from
the Helicopters equipped with
Helionix®.

FlyScan - Corrective Maintenance is

a web application accessible via the
collaborative platform AirbusWorld
which will replace the Maintenance
Ground Station (MGS) to:
• Simplify & Delocalize: No CD installation on a laptop, No local key to get, No upgrade to
manage, No conflicts with other software
• Share: Remote access for anyone (concurrent access) from anywhere at any time few minutes
after the data transfer and Access to 2 years of historical data storage for analysis

Let’s take the example of two H135 turning back from EMS missions: the pilots assigned to different
bases could take the Compact Flash card from the Data Transfer Device and insert it into the D-BOX,
a rugged tablet used to download more easily the Helicopter HUMS data. With a few clicks, they
are able to transfer the content to their central maintenance team for their analysis using FlyScan -
Corrective Maintenance:
•V isualize and analyze alarms details raised during flights
• Identify quickly missing data
•A nalyze Engine Power Checks margins
•E ase exchanges with Airbus Experts (Technical Events) directly in the application and quicker
support based on the same data
•G et a direct link to the right work card in the Technical Publication (Orion)
•A cknowledge alarms when maintenance is done

A first version of FlyScan - Corrective Maintenance is already available for H135 Helionix® which use
the existing MGS for the usage parameters analysis only. A next version including vibration parameters
is planned for next year.

In addition, Airbus Helicopters proposes complementary advanced services based on the same
Helicopter data to support Airworthiness managers to analyze flight sessions and update your
Maintenance Information System with one click (FlyScan - Fleet Monitoring) or Safety managers to
detect some potential events (Flight Analyser).

Technical requests accessible anywhere

and anytime with offline mode
Airbus Helicopters has improved its Technical Request mobile application so that
users can now consult technical requests (TE) in offline mode, enhancing the
mobility of this service.

The new feature is particularly useful for users in remote areas with little or no
internet connection who need to refer back to any previous communications with
Airbus Helicopters Technical Support on a specific TE.

As of 24 June 2021, users who are offline can consult previous TEs for a quick review
of previous data and communications, the better to understand their current situation
in order to find a solution. Customers are advised to remember to load the TE that
they will need before going offline.

(Some users with a low internet connection may find their TE data and messages
do not display correctly; they are advised to load the TE in offline mode, then
close the app and switch their smartphone or tablet to Airplane Mode before
again opening the app to access the TE offline.)

Offline users can also initiate a new TE as of mid-June. This new version allows
operators to start recording some information while offline and then finalise the TE
once they are back online. Connection to the internet is no longer a limiting factor.

When customers are online they can still take a photo or a short video directly from
a TE (as opposed to taking a photo or video with the smartphone and uploading
it in a TE); and can dictate messages using speech recognition, with the attendant
time savings involved (as opposed to typing messages into a device).

Access to the Technical Requests application is through the link

https://airbusworld.helicopters.airbus.com/webtek-request .
For more information, Users can install it by using the “Add to Home Screen” function.

New HDataPower pack: your gateway to digital

The digitisation of helicopter operations has benefitted the way we support rotorcraft and allows
us to leverage data generated by helicopter systems, such as flight data recorders and avionics
systems (Helionix®), or maintenance software and applications used to manage fleets.

Airbus Helicopters recently launched a new package of connected services, the HDataPower pack
- your gateway to digital, addressing the latest generation of helicopters: the H135, H145, H175
and H160. The HDataPower pack is designed to boost flight, airworthiness and maintenance
operations through easy-to-use digital solutions.

This new pack is aimed at supporting Helionix®-equipped helicopters at all steps of an operator’s
journey, with an uninterrupted digital chain of solutions fully integrated with Airbus Helicopters
systems. It facilitates instant exchanges across functions and organisations, optimises interactions
in fleet management while reducing human pressure and risks, and cuts workload and costs
thanks to advanced analytics solutions.

The HDataPower pack offers the best combination of services needed to optimise helicopter
operations. Airbus Helicopters collects data from operators’ aircraft and information systems to
provide them with pertinent solutions.

The HDataPower pack includes aircraft data connectivity services such as D-Box and wACS
(wireless Airborne Communications System). These feed the digital chain with data that is
analysed by solutions like FlyScan Fleet Monitoring, to provide an overview of fleet airworthiness
status, which is complemented with tech log information recorded through the Fleet Keeper
technical logbook. Analytics services like Fleet Availability Management and Reliability
eReporting make maintenance events progressively more predictable, make possible an optimal
understanding of unavailability causes, and improve anticipation, forecasting, and parts availability.
Flight Analyser, a post-flight data analytics service, complements this full end-to-end operational
chain to contribute to enhanced operational safety.

Through the digitisation and in-depth analysis of flight, maintenance and logistics operations, the
HDataPower pack sets the stage for improvement and time savings, translating to greater fleet
availability, enhanced operational safety and cost optimisation.

First test flights with Sustainable Aviation Fuel now

also completed in Donauwörth

The first helicopter operated by Airbus Helicopters in Germany running on

sustainable aviation biofuel took off from Donauwörth at the end of July.

The flight, which took place on 29 July, involved an H135 operated by

Airbus Helicopters and powered by a fuel mix that contained a 35% blend of
Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). SAF has the potential to cut CO2 emissions
by up to 80% compared with conventional fossil fuels. They can help to
significantly reduce CO2 emissions because they are produced from waste
materials – most of which are sourced from the food industry, for example
vegetable oils and fats. As a result, the fuel has no negative impact on
agricultural food production. SAF can also be mixed with conventional
aviation fuels, although the blending ratio is currently limited to a maximum of
50%.

Earlier in the month, Airbus-operated helicopters running on a fuel mix with

an 11% blend of SAF took off from Marignane. Airbus Helicopters sites
are expected to start receiving regular deliveries from 2022 for further test
flights. In June, Airbus Helicopters, together with Germany’s ADAC air rescue
service, Safran Helicopter Engines and TotalEnergies Deutschland, celebrated
the flight of an H145 running on aviation biofuel in Munich.

FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEM - Portable Fire Extinguisher
Inspection of the portable fire extinguisher

Revision: 0

Published: 2021-05-17

Description: Supplier UMLAUT told Airbus Helicopters that the portable fire extinguisher P/N U262A50T1001
(manufacturer’s P/N P3APP003010A) can have an incorrect operation because of high temperatures
(approximately 70°) during a long period. Because of the high temperatures exposure, the pressure in
the extinguisher increases and leads to an inoperative portable fire extinguisher. Thus, Airbus Helicopters
prescribes a first time and a scheduled inspection of the portable fire extinguishers.

Effectivity: a) EC135 T3H, P3H, 635 T3H, 635 P3H, S/N 2001 up to S/N 2145 inclusive.

LIGHTS - Search Light
Application of locking compound to the bolted connection
between SX-16 Search light and gimbals

Revision: 1

Published: 2020-05-31

Description: During an inspection, loose screws were found on the azimuth housing assy which connects the
SX-16 search light to the gimbal. The analysis revealed that the screws were installed without locking
compound. This non-conform installation can lead to loose screws, which may result in the loss of the
SX-16 search light. Therefore, the screws must be reinstalled with locking compound.

Revision 1 of this ASB provides an improved procedure with a more accurate illustration of the affected
screws. If Revision 0 of this ASB has already been accomplished, it must be done again.

Effectivity: a) EC135 T1, T2, T2+, T3, P1, P2, P2+, P3, 635 T1, 635 T2+, 635 T3, 635 P2+,

ROTOR FLIGHT CONTROL - Collective Controls
Check for an Installed Co-pilot Collective Lever Protection

Revision: 2

Published: 2021-07-26

Description: NOTE: The collective lever on the pilot side is protected by the center post and by the fire extinguisher
and is not affected by this ASB.

Airbus Helicopters has determined that on each pilot station, a collective lever protection is
required. Certain role equipment already provides this function. This ASB provides the details to
determine if a specific collective lever protection is required or if it is necessary to install the fixed
provisions only.

With Revision 2 the compliance time has been raised for helicopters without a system with
an equivalent protection function. Prerequisite for the new compliance time is the briefing of
passengers by the pilots before each flight.

If PART I has already been accomplished and PART III must be performed, the pilots must
brief the flight crew and passengers before each flight in accordance with Section 3.D until
accomplishment of PART III.

Effectivity: EC135 T1, T2, T2+, T3, P1, P2, P2+, P3, 635 T1, 635 T2+, 635 T3, 635 P2+, 635 P3, S/N 0001

introduction of new work card AMM 63-11-00, 6-4

Revision: 0

Published: 2021-06-09

Description: The inside of a drive shaft from the manufacturer KAMATICS
was found corroded. The following investigation revealed that
this drive shaft had not been inspected by the manufacturer
as required by MSM 05-25-00, but by the customer himself.
Hereupon, the investigation also revealed that, since
December 2017, MSM 05-25-00 Section 63-11 for the
KAMATICS drive shaft referenced by mistake to the work
card AMM 63-11-00, 6-1. This could have given the
impression, that the required inspection can be performed by
the operator.
Airbus Helicopters points out that, according to the clear
instruction of MSM 05-25-00 “Have drive shafts inspected
by the manufacturer”, the affected drive shafts must be sent
back to KAMATICS for inspection.

ASB MBB-BK117 C-2-67A-022 and ASB EC135-67A-029

Revision: 0

Published: 2021-07-12

Description: Airbus Helicopters was informed of a helicopter that reacted
with delay to control inputs from the collective lever.
Corresponding investigations showed that, on the one hand,
a screw of the control kinematics of the collective actuator
was not properly tightened and, on the other hand, that a
secondary load path of the kinematics was not set according
to the manufacturer’s Component Repair Manual (Liebherr).
Airbus Helicopters then published the Alert Service Bulletins
(ASB) EC135-67A-029 and MBB-BK117 C-2-67A-022.
This prescribes that the actuators concerned shall be
returned to Airbus Helicopter for exchange by July 2019.
An analysis of this exchange campaign showed that 13 of
the actuators concerned have not yet been exchanged.
Airbus Helicopters would like to point out the importance
of the exchange of all actuators installed in the helicopter and
those on stock, as prescribed in the ASB.
