We all know that media refers to the tools of mass communication such as television, radio,
newspapers, magazines, and the internet such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Google, and
other Social Networking Cites. People can utilize and observe social media in the form of broadcasting,
advertising, visual representations, pictures or images, graphics, videos, or even movies. It simply implies
that the media has the ability to disseminate information and facilitate communication, particularly over
great distances where individuals will be able to communicate swiftly with one another.
Because it can be easily accessed by anyone anywhere in the world, media and information
literacy has the power to change an individual's mind-set about life, his beliefs, perceptions, attitudes, and
the way he/she accepts the society's challenge toward facing the society itself. However, the issue does
not end there; having media and information literacy in one's life also means being a responsible enough
user who uses it dependently.
You are 100 percent responsible for everything that appears on your social media accounts, from
your status updates and comments to pictures, videos, and links you share. Here are some tips for staying
on top of your personal and professional responsibilities in today's social age.
Keep in mind that you are in command of your material. Social media may be used to improve
your life, connect with friends, create content, and entertain you. Or you can become accustomed to it
after it has sucked you in and made you feel miserable. It's a good idea to keep track of your feed and
unfollow/delete accounts that routinely spread inaccurate information, are negative, cruel, disrespectful,
or bully others.
Think twice before posting on social media. Consider the contents that you will be posting in the
social media. Make sure that no one gets harm or offended and make your content real. It's critical for
teens to realize that they aren't as anonymous as they may believe. The internet leaves a trail for everyone
to follow. If that makes them feel uneasy, they should probably stop doing what they're doing.
And lastly, set time for using media. Not all the times media is present, take time to communicate
personally towards your family, peers and friends. You should not forget your social life and prioritize
your health even with the use of media.
In coclusion, media can grant so much power and opportunities to the users and can give so much
impact in our mental, social and physical health. And with great power comes a great responsibility.
