ECE 402

Class 4-A
Course Description:
•The course provide an introduction to Energy Systems
and Renewable Energy Resources, with a scientific
examination of the energy field and an emphasis on
alternate energy sources and their technology and
application. The course explore society’s present needs
and future demands, examine conventional energy
sources and systems, including fossils fuels and nuclear
energy, and then focus on alternate, renewable energy
sources such as solar, biomass (conversions), wind
power, geothermal, and hydropower. Energy
conservation will be emphasized.
Course Objectives:
•List and generally explain the main sources of energy and
their primary applications in the Philippines, and the
world.
•Describe the challenges and problems associated with
the use of various energy sources, including fossil fuels,
with regard to future supply and the environment.
•Discuss remedies/potential solutions to the supply and
environmental issues associated with fossil fuels and
other energy resources.
•List and described the primary renewable energy
resources and technologies.
•Describe/Illustrate basic electrical concepts and
system components.
•Understand concepts of nuclear, geothermal and
marine power systems.
•Convert units of energy – to quantify energy
demands and make comparisons among energy uses,
resources, and technologies.
•Collect and organize information on renewable
energy technologies as a basis for further analysis
and evaluation.
