TECHNICAL INSTRUCTION ATR72

TITLE: ATR72 - CARGO DOOR - ACTUATOR FITTING INSTALLATION WITHOUT

TOOL (DURING CARGO DOOR FRAME REPAIR AT STA6250 AND STA6174).

1. EFFECTIVITY

All aircraft ATR72-102, ATR72-202, ATR72-212 and ATR72-212A models.

2. REASON

The aim of this Technical Instruction is to permit a correct installation of the actuator fitting of
the cargo door (SRM ATR72 52-31-20 figure 102 Item 65) without tool.

3. DESCRIPTION

NOTE: The following procedure intervenes after the splicing of the cargo door frames
located at STA6250 and STA6174 as per repair drawing 13S523R0019
(SRM ATR72 52-31-00 figure 402), except without the actuator fitting installation.
Then, the cargo door is considered removed.

1. Plug the actuator fitting attachment holes with aluminum bushing (possibility to install
protruding solid rivets and to flush them on their both sides). Drill these bushings at
4.8 mm (0.189 in.) diameter in the center. The aim of this step is, when fitting position
defined, to perform operational test of the cargo door with smaller diameter fasteners than
the original ones (refer from step 16 of this procedure).

2. Reinstall the door on the aircraft as per AMM (JIC) 52-31-00 RAI 10000 and connect the
folding strut adjusted at 1467.5 mm (57.776 in.).

3. Perform the adjustment of the cargo door actuator as per AMM (JIC) 52-31-35 RAI 10000
(step concerning the adjustment). Do not connect the actuator to the door.

4. Perform adjustment of the cargo door per AMM (JIC) 52-31-00 ADJ 10000 (except the
opening and closing adjustment).

5. Position the door in the closed position and locked.

6. Connect the actuator fitting to the link assy IPC ATR72 52-31-20 Figure 65
Item 270. Then, position the actuator fitting between the new spliced frames located at
STA6250 and STA6174.

7. Clamp the actuator fitting.

8. Disconnect the actuator fitting from the link assy. Then, manually open the door until
locking of the folding strut (opened position of the door).

NOTE: Pay special care when unlocking the folding strut in order to avoid the door from
sudden closing which could lead to serious people injury.
It is recommended to sustain the door using appropriate device.

9. Extend the actuator in order to attach the link to the actuator fitting.

10. If it is possible to connect the link to the fitting (actuator doesn’t reach its mechanical stop),
then the fitting can be considered as correctly located.

11. If it is not possible to connect the link to the actuator fitting at the opened position, then
retract the actuator, close the door, and renew from step 5 with the actuator fitting in
another position (actuator fitting hole should be moved closer from to the door inner skin).

12. At the end, if it is not possible to install the fitting correctly, install the lowering fitting as per
SRM ATR72 52-31-00 Figure 404 or Service Bulletin No. ATR72-53-1084.

13. When the actuator fitting is correctly located, perform mark on the frame through the
4.8 mm (0.189 in.) diameter holes drilled at step 3. Check edge distances from the frame
angles and, if acceptable, counter-drill the frames at 4.8 mm (0.189 in.) diameter.

14. Attach the actuator fitting to the frames with 4.8 mm (0.189 in.) diameter screws/nuts.

15. Perform final adjustment of the cargo door per AMM (JIC) 52-31-00 ADJ 10000 (step
concerning the folding strut).

16. Perform operational test of the cargo door opening and closing.

17. If the cargo door works correctly, perform final holes (drill completely the bushings) and
attach the fitting with final fasteners.
