“When that Day Comes”

by Almira C. Valdez

There are many challenges we have gone through that we have also overcome. Our abilities as
individuals are tested. I know and I'm sure you also know that if you stop you will lose. Think
about it with the sheer number of silent battles you have won, will you let that simple thing knock
you down?

Different types of students but the same aspirations. In the first step on the gate, you will feel the
beating of your chest, not a large school, but a confusing classroom. Rushing to the back of the
seat just to feel the coolness of the aircon. Every corner of the classroom left happy memories,
the naughtiness of everyone and the silence during recitation.

Classmates, if that day comes, when I see you on the road or even anywhere, I will not hesitate
to look you in the eye and smile even though we are not that close. You have been part of my
journey. Perhaps some of you did not feel the slightest bit of concern for your fellow students.
Some of you are so competitive that you have reached the point where you consider your
classmates as your opponents, well in fact the real opponent is just yourself. And some of you I
can say that you have served as my brothers and sisters even though I am not related to you,
you made me feel that I am not alone with this battle. And I can tell that each and everyone
plays their corresponding role. If everyone is good to me, I wouldn't be able to see the value of
each other and if everyone is hard on me I wouldn't be able to see the true value of myself.
Everything is balance not everyone will agree with you

Teachers, if that day comes I will not be tired of thanking you, an endless gratitude for you
because you serve as a bridge for what I am now. You have strengthened me as an individual. If
they are going to ask me to describe a teacher I can say that I'm sorry I can't find the right word
that can describe a teacher. Maybe some people will say that teachers are passionate, creative,
dedicated, caring, innovative and many more but honestly there is no equivalent word that can
describe a teacher because teachers are more than words.

Friends, if that day comes I will make sure that you are still there. You played a big part in my
growth. You are there when I almost give up. I may not be a perfect friend to you, even if you
don't dream of me being your friend. I'm here and I won't leave even if you leave. I will always
choose to stay, I'll stay until the end. Entering college and meeting new people is quite
challenging but honestly I don't need anyone, if they like me then go but if it's not, ok I’m fine
with myself. Then you came, I don't know where this friendship started but one thing for sure is I
don't want to lose you. Honestly, when this semester started I was very happy because as you
notice during vacation we almost didn't chat. Our GC was quiet but even so I understand
because we have our own responsibilities. Always remember guys that my shoulder is free for
you to lean on, I am ready to listen to whatever rants in your life.
Mother M.O.T.H.E.R, one word six letters but means a lot. I know it can be tiring sometimes, and
I know you can handle it. You are the strongest person I know. If that day comes I want to tell
you only two words which is “My Turn” I’ll give you everything you want, everything you need.
We don't have to look at the price. I'll take every charge, you don't have to worry about
everything. All I want to see is you smiling because your smile is priceless. All I wish is that
when that day comes, you are still around.
