How Taryn starts her class:


● Welcomes her students “Welcome to Friday!”
● Walks around the classroom
● Has on the board instructions or a sign on what is happening ex.
Silent reading time today (20 min).
● Offers students reminders on how to find a book they’ll prefer to read
● Reminds students to be silent and that they should be reading.
● Calm, nice voice.
● Most students are following her instructions.
● Calm, quiet atmosphere. Good class management.
● Called her students “okay grade eleven…”

Instructs plans/ Class agenda:


● Ted talk - video for students to watch and listen to that collects with
plans for next week
● Instructs: “i want you to take notes”
● Reminds them about the date (Sept. 17)
● Reminds and talks calmly on “no phones out, and no conversations”
● Taryn wrote a word on the word she thought her students might have
misheard or couldn’t spell to help them (scaffolding).
● Brain Breaks! - mental health

Scaffolding Techniques:
★ Taryn wrote a word on the word she thought her students might have
misheard or couldn’t spell to help them (scaffolding).
★ Shows a rubric: students know what they are looking for and
supposed to be aiming for.
★ Printing the assignment for students who would benefit more from it
being printed.

★ Lower body to get to the same height as some students to have a


more comfortable conversation.
★ Instructions also posted on Teams.
★ Writing notes on the whiteboard for students to look at and help them
out.

Class Management Techniques:


➔ Has and collects duotangs from her students
➔ Voice: Calm, nice voice.
➔ Instructions: Has on the board instructions or a sign on what is
happening ex. Silent reading time today (20 min).
➔ Duotang: writers notebook
➔ If students need help: reach out to her on Teams
➔ Slides: to keep everyone on track, and to remind students what their
questions are.
➔ Reminds students that they might be sharing their information so they
need to be prepared with an answer
➔ Uses wait time.
