INTRODUCTION
This is my small project lasting for one year. I used stop motion techniques to conduct this project.
The idea came from a Hungarian fable called “The Two Greedy Bears”. I edited the story to make it
more humorous, and then I started to design characters, draw, paint, cut out papers and stick them
together, make scenes, and arrange layouts. Then, I set up the camera and took photos for each motion
and then, finally, worked on editing and added music. As a result, my Two Lazy Bears video was born.
IDEA
As for the video’s idea, it was formed when I was watching a short stop motion animation on YouTube
in the summer of 2019. I love drawings and watching animation in my spare time, so I felt excited
when I discovered this amazing filmmaking technique. I started to discover and research on the internet
and made plans for my own videos.
“Two Lazy Bears” is my first visual work using stop motion. Despite the motion not being flawless, I
felt happy with my animation after watching it again. I will keep trying to learn and take the time to
improve my skills before hopefully continuing with more videos in the future.
TWO LAZY BEARS
The story started with a family of bears, with one mother bear and two baby bears during a sunny
afternoon. While taking part in a long journey, the two little bears came to Uncle Goat to buy a
watermelon. Because their watermelon was too heavy, and because they were lazy, they rolled it over
and over on the ground until they came home. When their mother cut the watermelon, however, the
fruit was crushed. Truly two lazy bears.
WHAT IS STOP MOTION?
Stop motion is an animated filmmaking technique where objects are built following each motion, then
photographed and reassembled together to become a film. Each photographed frame is an independent
motion. When we reassemble motions continuously, it feels like the characters are actually moving.
Stop motion animation is one of the oldest techniques in the filmmaking industry. Despite many newer
techniques becoming more popular in modern cinema, stop motion is still quite special and still chosen
by many contemporary filmmakers and artists.
