Additionally, the students will create vocabulary cards that they can use as a reference to remember the terms used for this lesson. Description of Learning Strategy and Experience: Vocabulary cards are an effective tool for the students to refer back to when they forget terms. The use of a visual representation of the word helps the students to connect the term toa real-life example. Pass out four flashcards to each student. “Use these flashcards to create a vocabulary word card that lists the word, has your definition of the word, includes a drawing of the word, and includes an example of the word used in a sentence. You may keep these cards to refer back to.” Rationale: This supports understanding by giving the students a tool to remember key terms that will be used often in class, Improving Adolescent Literacy says this, “Constructing vocabulary cards serves several uses in the classroom... The time involved in creating each card also provides students an opportunity to concentrate on the meaning.” Jonathan Aliponga and Christopher C Johnston in Benefits of Using Vocabulary Flash Cards say this, "Word cards are very motivational when used complimentary to other ways of learning, which overlap and. reinforce each other, Nation (2001) said vocabulary is best acquired when it is used both receptwely and productively” Assessment: Using visual and aural assessment | could see and hear students playing their ukuleles. After seeing and hearing the students play, I know I should continue reviewing. strumming patterns specifically over the next few days. I'll test the students on the vocabulary terms tomorrow and remind them to review the terms with their vocabulary cards.
