Progressivism and essentialism plays a vital role in molding the wholesome personality of
the students. These two talks about the important things a student should have in order to cope up
with the changing world.

Progressivism is incorporate with learning by doing. Students tend to learn more if they
can apply it in real world. The lesson became more meaningful if it can be applied in real life
situation. A progressivist teacher tends to give activities that provokes the student’s interest. The
role of the teacher is just a facilitator and a guide to their students and let them explore and
experience the task first hand. As a teacher, the subject itself is not the end of our job, we must
ensure that our students are equipped with the skills and abilities that they must possessed in coping
up with the world. In progressivism, we should give hands on project and social interactive
activities that lets them socialize and collaborate with their peers. With this, not only they could
learn the knowledge and skills but also they could improve their social aspects. Progressivist
teacher focuses on the skills acquired rather than the knowledge and verbal skills.

Essentialism focuses on the knowledge and skills acquired to enable students to fully
develop as human beings. Through this philosophy, the teacher is the center of the classroom. This
is like the traditional type of classroom wherein the teacher delivers the learning. The students are
taught to be hardworking and disciplined. The traditional chalk and chalkboard methods wherein
they are more of lectures and rote memorization. Currently, this method is not advisable because
we are encouraging our students to discover and collaborate learning with their peers.

Analytical philosophy taught us that we have to teach our students on how to use logic in
our everyday lives especially in decision making. This will help them to think carefully before
doing something. It taught us not to be drastic with our decisions instead think it carefully first.
This is one of the important skill a person could have because it lets them to be a critical thinker
and be careful all the time. On the other hand, Marxism focuses on the scientific plan for complete
social change and revolution. Patriotism is taught in this philosophy. They give importance to the
good of all people. Marxism believes that education is considered as the greatest instrument of
social change. After all, we all do these things because we want to have a better society to live on.
This is the ultimate goal for all of us and this is the main purpose why teachers exist, and it is to
develop a productive citizens of this country.
