At Old School we are all about the classic version of role playing games that were popular in the
late 1970s to the early 1980s. You know the games. You played them as kids. They were far better than
many of the later versions that came along. At Old School we bring you high quality adventures and
adventure products for gaming at a reasonable price.
The adventures themselves are well thought out. They have a few puzzles, riddles and other
encounters as well as plenty of monster bashing action. Some have been thoroughly play tested by other
gamers. The goal is to provide you the game master adventures to use on the spur of the moment when
players want to play and you do not have the time to prepare something spectacular.

They have placed an orbital space station to study the star as it grows in size and become more
unstable. The space station is manned and also has robots. This is not a suicide mission for the
scientists. They fully understand that this is a high risk mission. And they were prepared to take
these risks.
The plan was to have the personnel removed before the star reaches the point where an explosion
could be expected. The station itself will be sacrificed in order to get first a hand view of the
phenomenon. Scientific knowledge is worth the loss of a single station to the Confederation.
Circumstances have changed. Pirates have attacked the vessels tending to the space station and
now the scientists aboard the station are in extreme danger from the impending explosion of the
star. Additionally there is a great deal of scientific research on this station. It needs to be retrieved
if the astronomers of the Confederation are to learn more about this phenomena.
One further problem exists. The station has no longer been communicating. The reason for this is
unknown. Also....the radiation being given off by the star now indicates that the time table for the
event is sooner than previously estimated.
Scientist Finn Suzuki approaches the travelers while they are in star port. He offers them CR
200000 to rescue the scientists aboard and to recover their research before the station is destroyed
by the Supernova.
This adventure is designed for use with the “Frontiers of Space.” The Frontiers of Space are a
sector designed by myself for use with Cepheus Engine. It is a “Pay what you want” file just like
this one and is available on Drive Thru RPG. Cepheus Engine and Samardan

which is in the Frontiers of Space.. However this adventure could easily be placed somewhere in
your gaming universe instead.
There are a number of factors in this scenario which might prove dangerous or even fatal to the
travelers engaged in this rescue mission. Some of these factors include:
1. A supernova is, indeed, imminent. Very imminent. It will occur much sooner than the
scientists believe. Supernovas certainly have been known for thousands of years but no
one can be totally sure when such an event might take place. Not with total certainty. In
this situation it is going to happen within two hours after the travelers reach the station.
Perhaps less.
2. The pirates have boarded the station and are engaged in looting and pillaging. There are
still scientists aboard who are alive. Some are hiding. Others are prisoners. The
communications have been severed. These pirates were unaware of the impending
supernova and do not believe the claims of their prisoners. These claims about the star
seem to be just an elaborate ruse to escape capture.
3. There are two pirate ships in the area. One is docked with the station while the boarders
are doing their work. Another stands nearby covering the action with it’s guns.
4. The security robot aboard the craft has gone berserk. It is attempting to repel all boarders
and will not recognize anyone but the scientists aboard as being authorized personnel.
The pirates are fighting the robot but have not disabled it yet.
5. The security systems for the station may block access to certain areas by dropping
titanium bars to prevent movement.
This 300 ton TL11 corvette stands guard outside the station while the boarding party is looting
the station. This ship has seen a great deal of action and has a large number of battle scars to
show for it. Some of the guns no longer work. Quite a few of them in fact. At the moment only
two of the hard points have functioning weapons on them. Two pulse lasers are operational on
the first hard point. A single pulse laser is functional on the other. The third hard point has been
completely blasted away from previous action and has not yet been repaired. A full crew is
aboard this craft but the captain of this ship is in no mood to take many risks. After a couple of
rounds of ship to ship combat he will give the order to jump and abandon his “friends” aboard
the station and save his ship for another day.
The station does not appear as if there is anything outwardly wrong with it as the travelers
approach. The star is incredibly bright and looms large beneath the station. A large prominence
seems to reach out towards the station from the star below but the station is in no danger from it.
The station is a wheel design. The habitable decks are in the outside ring. The inner portion of
the station is where the engines and generators are controlling the station. Gravity is maintained
aboard by the constant rotation generated by the massive engines.
Two enormous metal doors open to allow entry into the station. These doors are automated and
will open when they sense that a ship is approaching. The scientists are not an armed military
mission and they expect no aggression.
The space here is quite large. Ships up to 200 tons could land here successfully. Two pinnaces
are parked in this area. One belongs to the scientists. The other belongs to the boarding party.
Two members of the science team lie on the floor here with bullet wounds. These bodies will
float lifelessly when the doors to the outside open. The air locks engage automatically on this
level when the doors are open. The klaxons sound automatically so that anyone in this area can
get to safety before the doors open.
2. Security Screen
When the station is under attack titanium bars drop into place to block access to or from the rest
of the station. For some reason these security bars did not drop. They are malfunctioning and may
drop at some random moment later. Roll 2D6. A roll of 12 will indicate that the bars drop into
place to block access. It is possible that the sudden spike in radiation from the star may have
affected some of the security systems.
3. Engines/Generators
The central core of the station can be reached via several tubes which connect to the various
levels of the wheel. These tubs are encountered every ten feet along the inner wall from any
level.
The engine and generator room is operating properly. The dead bodies of two engineers can be
found lying on the ground here. Both were executed at point blank range by a gun shot to the
temple.
4. Stairs
1. Stairs
2. Mess Hall
Several tables are lined up here. A number of them have been turned over. Some kind of
altercation has taken place here. Blood stains cover a good portion of the floor here.
This room contains the controls as well as the scientific instruments used to observe the star.
Large telescopes and sensors outside of the station monitor the star as it begins it’s process of
dying.
Two men are sitting in front of the console. Both are still alive but are tied up with gags in their
mouths. Another two men stand guard behind them. It is likely that neither of these guards will
be paying attention to anything outside of this room unless they have heard gunfire or have some
other reason to be watching for the arrival of new enemies. The chances for them being aware in
any other instance should be determined on a roll of 2D6. A roll of 11+ will indicate that they are
on alert.
4. Captain’s Quarters
This is the quarters for Quentin Chu. Currently it is occupied by the leader of the pirates who is
currently resting from a long day of pillage and murder.
He is making plans for how to deal with the security robot on the upper level of the station. So
far he has already lost three men to it. He has no wish to lose more but feels that there must be
something of value on that level and wants to know what it is.
5. Crew Quarters
The remaining living members of the science team are here. All are bound and gagged. The
pirates plan to take them for ransom when they depart the station. Right now they are busy
searching for valuables to loot. Three pirates stand guard here. One watches the door while the
other two watch the prisoners.
Pirates
Prisoners
This is the quarters of Jack Martin. Currently there is no one here. Or so it appears. Actually one
of the scientists is here and is in hiding under the bed.
This is the storage deck for the station. A security bot is patrolling this level and will fire on
anyone that it encounters. On the map I have placed it on the far left side of the map but it could
be encountered anywhere here.
The bodies of three dead pirates lie on the floor here. They were surprised by the robot and were
killed in a battle with it. Two rifles and a shotgun lie on the floor beside the bodies. No one
bothered to try to retrieve these items with the robot still on the loose here.
The robot stays on this level alone. It will not visit any other areas of the station as it has been
tasked with guarding some of the items in the storage area from intruders.
This is an intelligent and autonomous robot. It has specific orders to stay on this level and guard
the special cargo on this level from anyone who is not with the science team. It will recognize the
scientists by the uniforms that they wear. Should any of the travelers don one of those uniforms
they will find that the robot will ignore them unless it comes very close. If the robot closes within
ten feet of a traveler it will use it’s facial recognition software. When ti does not recognize the
person in it’s database it will open fire.
The robot has visible battle damage from it’s earlier encounters with the pirates. There are signs
where blasts from small arms have damaged the hull.
2. Security Robot
See above.
3. Storage Area
Containers of all shapes and sizes are located here. Two of these containers, however, have
something that would be of extreme value to the pirates should they find it. For the scientists
have a mission beyond just observing the supernova. They have brought with them a special
probe which they intend to fire into the star and gain further knowledge of the supernova. This
probe, however, has many extremely valuable components. It is a very high tech probe and others
in the Sonora sector would be very interested in reverse engineering this technology. The pirates
would like to find it and perhaps sell it to one of these interested parties.
The station sensors will immediately pick up the sudden spike of radiation before the star
explodes. This will immediately sound klaxons and alarms all over the station. This will give ten
minutes warning to evacuate before the explosion of the star occurs. A ship that is immediately
boarded would have an opportunity to escape the blast area in time.
The star should supernova soon after the travelers arrive. But not so soon that they have no
opportunity to explore the station, fight the pirates and rescue scientists. Within two hours of the
arrival of the travelers the warning klaxons should begin going off giving them an opportunity to
wrap things up and get out of town before things blow.
