Praxis Core Analysis

The Praxis Core Exam is required to receive Educator or administrative licensure in

Nevada. The exam must be taken before transferring schools or taking any education courses or

at UNLV, NSC, or UNR to continue your bachelor’s degree in Education. The passing scores for

the exam varies. For Mathematics the passing score is 150, for Reading it is 156, and for the

Writing portion, it is 162. The combined Praxis Exam is $150, but each individual exam is $90.

The CBEST test can be taken instead of the Praxis Exam to receive licensure.

I prepared for the tests by using ETS and Khan academy. I studied for about a week and a

couple days. I passed the math and reading tests with 90’s but I didn’t do so well on the writing. I

believe it was because I didn’t do the writing portion. I think if I did the writing portion, I would

at least receive a B. When I prepare for the real exams, I’m going to make sure to study extra

harder and maybe take more practice tests because they are very helpful.

In the Praxis core reading practice test I received a 95%, which means I am very likely to

pass. In math I received a 91%, which also means I am very likely to pass. However, for my

writing test, I got a 50%. However, I think I got that score because I didn’t do the writing

portion. If I did the writing portion, I believe I could’ve gotten a better score. In more detail, on

my writing practice test diagnostics, I received a 50% for language and research skills for writing

and a 16% for text types, purposes, and production. In reading, I got a 100% in key ideas and

details; 94% In craft, structure, and language skills; and finally, 89% in integration of knowledge

and ideas. Finally, in math I received 78% in number and quantity, 94% in algebra and geometry,

94% in data interpretation and representation, and 100% in operations and algebraic thinking.

For future preparation, I will look into any program that will help me pass the exams. I

could even join a study group or hire a tutor for extra help. I understand CSN offers programs, I

will definitely look into those before taking the official exams. I can also use my practice tests to

study because it offers helpful feedback. I could also watch a video on how to manage test

anxiety. Then, I will be confident and prepared when I take the official praxis exams.
