Welcome to art class!

Why study art?
How will art benefit me in the
future?
•Art will help you cope with tough life moments
•You will learn a lot about yourself and the art that
surrounds your daily life
•You get a whole class period to be creative and yourself!
What we will learn in class…
-Types of art (abstract, modern, realism)
-Types of artists(Picasso, Frida Kahlo, Vincent Van Gogh, Tim Burton)
-How to use art as a creative outlet.
-Styles of art (ceramics, acrylic, oil, graphite, watercolor)
Class rules….
-Be respectful to me, yourself, classmates,
and art supplies.
-Sharing is caring
-Be unique and creative
-Follow the golden rule- treat others the way
you want to be treated.
-You may leave when the bell rings. -Stay
seated until then, don’t line up at the door.
-lean up after yourself!
-Have fun!
-You will have a big project every quarter and
little projects in between.

-Big projects will be your quarter grade which

-Little projects will be graded like any


assignment.

-Eachproject will have a different theme,

-After each project, you will fill out a evaluation


form.

-Warmups every morning in your sketch book.


What to expect in
our class…
By the end of this section, your audience should•There will
be warm ups every morning to start of the period. You will
put these warm ups in your sketchbook that you decorated,
every morning.

•Every quarter you’ll get a new project. You have an entire


quarter to work on this project.

•Unless I have a certain topic that I want the class to learn


about (such as history, types of art, or techniques to better
yourself and art) I will give you the entire period to work
on your projects
•There will be a class fee that gives you- a portfolio, a
sketch book, and pencils. The more you move up in the
class, the more you will receive.

Ways to get inspiration…

There are many social media


platforms to look upon for
inspiration. One way to get
inspiration and sell your art is
Deviantart.

1st quarter project..
You will be drawing yourself in as much detail as
possible. You may use mixed media such as
graphite, acrylic paint, or watercolor.
These will benefit me by remembering you and
your art style.
These will benefit you to see where you are at.
They will be hung up in class for a couple weeks
so make sure to do your best.
You will each get a cardboard shoe box.

Decorate that box with mixed media.


Such as glitter, tissue paper, pictures…

This box will be filled with things you


collect over the next four years of high
2nd quarter- High school school.

memory box You could put anything in there that has


meaning to you, such as movie tickets,
homecoming tickets, or photo strips of
you and your friends.
You will turn this is at the end of the
quarter. You must have at least 6 objects
in there that have true meaning to you
and explain why
-You will pick an artist of your
choosing and create a piece
inspired by they're artwork.
-You will also create a powerpoint/
google slide presentation about 3rd quarter project-
this artist

-You're going to be teaching the
class about this artist and why
you chose him.
-You will get more instructions
when the time comes.
4th quarter project- -We get to work with clay!
sculpting your self -Throughout the year I will teach
you techniques with ceramics and
portrait sculpting
-You will use these techniques in
this project
-You will create your self portrait
as a sculpture.
