STANDARD LESSON PLAN FORMAT (cooperative)
I. Describe the Class

The classroom is a 30-student high school health class. Including 5 special needs
students.

II. Subject/Skill:

The subject students are studying is CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation). They will be
working in groups after watching a video on how to perform CPR and save someone’s
life. They will use a dummy and a fake AED unit and role play with their group mates.
Each student will have a position, one performs CPR on the dummy, one is sent to call
911, one helps with the AED, and one gives information about the dummy to the friend
calling 911 and checks the area to make sure it is safe.

III. Objective(s)

- Students will be able to focus on the task at hand and be able to know each crucial step
to CPR with the help of their group members
- Students will be performing CPR on a dummy after watching a video with 90%. They
will also use the fake AED unit to know how to use one if one is present.
- Students will be able to apply this activity to real life situations whether someone has
passed out and need CPR or if someone is choking and needs help.
- Students will work together and understand the importance of teamwork.

IV. Procedures

Students will watch a 10 min video on a tutorial on each step to follow when someone
is unconscious and needs CPR. After watching the video and understanding each step.
They will get in groups of 5.
1- Will perform CPR on the dummy
2- Will be the friend of the dummy and explain the situation
3- One will call 911 (pretend) while number 2 explains the situation
4- Will help work the AED and place it in the correct
5- Will pretend to be a paramedic when they “arrive”
Each one will be crucial part to the CPR role play so that they may be prepared for
the real world and be prepared for the CPR test incase they want to become certified.
Which is a requirement at some jobs.

-Beginning video; notes

- CPR dummy

- phone for fake call
- evaluation worksheet

VI. Grouping Structures

Students will work in groups of 5 in a health classroom. They will have a dummy on a
large table with 5 chairs around them. Although they will be standing most of the time.

VII. Modifications

English Language learners- I could show the students still learning English exactly what
to do and how to do it. Or I could find the same video everyone else is watching and put
captions in his/her language.

Learning disabled- I could do the same thing by showing an example or showing them
easier ways to remember certain things. Such as pumping the heart at 100 beats per
minute by following a sound or song that helps them keep track of each beat per minute.

Gifted learners may do whatever makes them comfortable. It is important for everyone to
understand CPR. They may watch the video and work with the group and get the help of
their friends. Or if they felt more comfortable, I could help them and show them a step-
by-step process of what they need to do to get a grade.

VIII. Assessment

6. Assessment- At the end of the project, students will take a test asking them
significant questions related to CPR. Including why CPR is important and in what
situation they might have to perform CPR. This will show me they understand how to
perform CPR and the importance of CPR as well.

7. Distribution Practice- AT the end of the class, I will send homework with them.
They will create a video of them acting in a CPR situation. They may do it with their
group or friends of their own. But they must let me know so I know how to grade

each one of them. In the video, they will include at least 5 people, and show all the
steps they need to succeed in a CPR situation.
