Lesson Plan no. 3 Teacher's name: Sidra Nafees

Topic: Sound and hearing pg(84 -95)

Learning Goals The objective of this chapter, student should able to recognise about sound, its propagating
properties and production. In this chapter, we look at how sound is produced, how it
travels, and how we hear it.
We also look at the amplitude and frequency of different sounds .

Sight words musical instruments, medium, media, tuning fork , strike frequency, amplitude,Speed, reflecti

Prior Knowledge Student familiar with different types of sound.

Lesson Plan Day …1… : Date ( 15-11-21 ) Status:
Pages 84
Teacher will describe how sounds are made by musical instruments. Also explain that sound needs a medium to
travel
through and that it travels at different speeds through different media (like solid {15times}, liquid {5times} and
gas).
Wrapping up ask different questions
Lesson Plan Day …2… : Date ( 16-11-21 ) Status:
Read Page 85
In the Start of class teacher will show the students a tuning fork and strike it on a rubber pad. Bring it
near to the students to listen. What is produced? Why is it produced? Name other things which produce sound.
Strike the tuning fork again and place the end of the tuning fork gently on a window pane. This will increase the
volume of the sound. Discuss why this happens. (The tuning fork will make the window pane vibrate. This much
larger surface will cause the vibration of more air molecules, so it will be easier to hear. If a student puts his/her
hand on the window, the vibrations, and therefore the sound, will stop.)
Then teacher will ask some questions from students to speak loudly or sing a song.
Keep a finger on their throat, what do they feel?
Teacher use a diagram to explain how sound energy travels in the form of sound waves by compression and
rarefaction.

Wrapping up draw compression and rarefaction.

Lesson Plan Day …3… : Date ( 17-11-21) Status:
Page 86. Teacher revise the previous lesson. Focus on the fact that sound requires particles in a medium to
vibrate. Sound does not travel in a vacuum but can travel through gas (e.g. air), liquids, and solids. The
vibrations of one particle are passed on to another, maybe a similar particle, maybe very different.
Teacher will also describe about vibrations of the diaphragm. It may be possible to see that a lowpitched sound
produces slower vibrations than a very high-pitched sound.

Wrapping up ask in groups the useful and harmful effects of sound.

Page 87. Teacher should discuss explain a sound wave in detail.(formula, value, unit etc.)
When we talk about the speed of sound, what do we really mean? What is speed? Is there another word for
speed? (Yes, velocity.) What are the units of speed? (Speed is measured as the distance covered per unit time, so
the units are, e.g., m/s or km/h.) The speed of sound in air is 330 m/s.
Speed = Distance / Time
Average Speed = Total distance travelled / Total time taken

Wrapping up asking different questions.

Lesson Plan Day …6… : Date ( 20- 11 - 21 ) Status:
Page88.Teacher will briefed about the echo.
Hear an echo, the sound has to travel from the person/object making the sound to the surface which
reflects the sound and back to the person/object.This means that the distance travelled by the sound is twice the
distance between the person/object and the reflecting surfaceof sound.

Wrapping up asking different questions.

Lesson Plan Day …7… : Date ( 21- 11- 21 ) Status:

Pages 89-90. To extend knowledge of sound and hearing teacher introduce the concepts of frequency and
amplitude.
Student should be able how changes in frequency and pitch of a sound wave affect a sound.
Two singers singing songs. One is louder than other. Loudness depends on amplitude. The greater the
amplitude, the louder the sound. This can be measured in decibels.
Teacher will differentiate between frequency and amplitude.

Wrapping up Ask the students to recall all the definitions of the terms used in the chapter and discuss them
