Title of Reading Selection: Are We Too Dependent on Technology?

Summary
Direction: Write a one-paragraph (approximately 10 sentences) summary of the reading selection. It should include the title of the reading
selection, the author’s name, author’s thesis, and supporting points.
Terry Brown's article "Are we too dependent on technologies?", states that a human's brain capabilities gets too slowed down when we
are relying too much on devices that supposed to make our lives easier. This greatly affects our cognitive skills and our hippocampus
unimproved. Even a term for this symptom is called "Digital Amnesia" and was coined by Kapersky in 2015. We have become even more
dependent on technology as an extension of our brains – and the technological devices themselves have gotten smarter and smarter, Take
phone numbers, for example. “In the original report, there were personal phone numbers that a majority of participants were able to recall
without first looking them up. In 2015, 70% of people were able to recall their partner’s phone number. Four years later, that number decreased
to 60%. Similarly, 68% of people could call their parents without first looking up the number to dial – but by 2019, only 64% could. If you’re
addicted to your mobile phone, feel anxious when you can’t get online, spend more time on social media than meeting real people face-to-face
(and feel uneasy when you do), or can’t perform simple math in your head – then it may be that you’re too dependent on technology and need
to make time to unplug from it every once in a while. In the end, it’s all about balance. Of course, continuing technological advancements will
mean that more and more tasks get assigned to machines. In this way, we can keep our creativity, productivity, focus, and mental health in good
working order as we use technology – because, at the end of the day, whether we are too dependent on technology or not, it isn’t going
anywhere any time soon.

Response
Direction: Write a one-paragraph (approximately 10 sentences) response to the reading selection. It should include your reaction to the
author’s thesis, and assessment of author’s achievement of the text’s purpose, clarity, and objectivity.
Technology makes our life easier and more convenient since we don't exert much effort and save time. Personally, I think we are too
dependent on technology. Upon noticing the world for more than 18 years I was disappointed on how we rely too much on them. Technologies
are meant to make things faster; however, we are too addicted to it since it started to popularize. We don’t really get the purpose of it and we
people misuse it in our daily lives, technologies are used for the things we can’t do barehanded. I am actually on his side on his thesis’ purpose,
most of the technology users are biased and subjectively think that oh technologies affect us. His thesis conveys the increasing dependence on
technologies in comparison to the skills every individual may have. The clarity of the text is coherent and relevant in each statement together.
His thesis is going smoothly however he didn’t achieve on writing objectively, the part where he says that he was good at math without using
technology, but when the calculator arises, he didn’t get to use his skill in math. That time he notices that we are dependent on technologies and
it is stated in his thesis that he was completely intuitive.
