9/2020- Developing Capstone Idea: I spent time discussing PSC 1.1, 1.2, 1.4, 5.1, 5.2
11/2020 the needs of our online learners with colleagues that
ISTE 1a, 1b, 1d, 4a, 4b
were also teaching all online. Together we weighed
the positive and negative aspects of teaching online.
Together we determined that our students were
lacking in so many social areas that fell back on
classroom community.
(6 Hours)
Reflection: At first, I had no idea what I was going to do for my capstone project. The time that I
began thinking and drafting my capstone topic I was teaching online to 40 students. I as well as
other online teachers noticed a lack of engagement from student in the online classroom
environment. This was because of little to no classroom community. Online teachers were signing
into Google Meets having class and not allowing students to talk or even just have conversations
as kids. I knew that something had to change in this online teaching environment if it was going
to be the least bit successful. This is where the idea for my capstone project was born “Creating
an Online Classroom Community”.
9/2020- Capstone Proposal: I spent so long creating my PSC. 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 2.6,
11/2020 capstone proposal. Through this whole capstone 4.1, 4.2, 3.1, 3.2, 5.1, 5.2
process I believe this was the most difficult. I knew
ISTE 2a, 2b, 2c, 2d, 2f, 3a,
what I wanted to achieve but have no idea how to
3b, 4a, 4b, 5a, 5b
support my work. The idea of teaching elementary
students online was new and not a lot of research
had been completed. (30 Hours)
Reflection: The research process of the capstone was very difficult. I spent so many hours looking
to locate research that could support my capstone topic. Through the research process I learned
so much about locating research and what to use as well as what not to use. Our professor for the
Educational Research course did such an amazing job making sure that we were able to locate
meaningful information. The research that I was able to find focused on engaging students in
online classroom from my research I shifted my idea to focus on ways that I could engage
students in a online classroom community.
1/ 2021- Creating Deliverables: For my capstone project I PSC 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 2.6,
2/ 2021 had many pieces to create. I began the capstone 3.1, 3.2 4.1, 4.2, 5.1, 5.2
development with an in-person meeting, the second
professional development was online with tasks for
teachers to complete. The final round of ISTE 2a, 2b, 2c, 2d, 2f, 3a,
development teachers participated in coaching 3b, 4a, 4b, 5a, 5b
cycles which had many handouts and documentation
sheets. The final thing I needed to create was the
Google Form survey for teachers to fill out to share
the impact the capstone had on their online
classroom.
(32 Hours)
Reflection: For this capstone project I used many Web 2.0 creation tools. I used Canvas, Google
Forms, Screencastiy, Google Jambord, and Flipgrid. In the professional development sessions of
the capstone teachers learned how to use Google Jamboard and Flipgrid in their online
classrooms. During our development times I made a point to use those two tools as examples for
the teachers and how they can use them in their own class.
3/2021- Project Implementation: I completely PSC 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 2.6,
5/2021 implemented my Capstone Project the exact way 3.1, 3.2 4.1, 4.2, 5.1, 5.2
that I had intended to. I had two professional
development sessions one in person and one online.
Each session lasted about 20 minutes with a task for ISTE 2a, 2b, 2c, 2d, 2f, 3a,
teachers to complete as an example. After both 3b, 4a, 4b, 5a, 5b
sessions teachers completed coaching sessions that
resembled Jim Knight’s coaching cycles. At the end of
all professional development opportunities teachers
completed a Google survey stating the impact that
the capstone made on their online classroom.
(34 Hours)
Reflection: Professional development sessions and coaching cycles helped give me more
experience as an instructional technology coach. I learned so much from each development and
coaching cycle that helped to shape me into a technology leader at my school. I asked the teachers
who were attending the professional developments to give me feedback so that I can change or
tweak them to make it more meaningful. I had to change the outline and requirements for some
to fit their schedules, but I learned a lot about working with my colleagues.
9/2021 Capstone Report: The capstone report reviews and PSC 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 2.6,
documented what I completed during the capstone. 3.1, 3.2 4.1, 4.2, 5.1, 5.2
In the report I described the capstone experience,
implementation, project outcomes, barriers
encountered, following up, and reflection. ISTE 2a, 2b, 2c, 2d, 2f, 3a,
3b, 4a, 4b, 5a, 5b
(10 Hours)
Reflection: The outcomes of the capstone were all positive. Digital teachers that completed the
capstone project found that it helped their classroom environment greatly. As stated in the
capstone report teachers were able to participate in authentic learning.
11/ 2021 Capstone Presentation: The capstone presentation PSC 5.2, 6.1, 6.2
consisted of writing a script or outline of the
ISTE 4b, 6a, 6b, 6c
capstone project. I also created visuals through
keynote to share my final thoughts about my
capstone. I used iMovie to edit my presentation and
export it into YouTube. By uploading the
presentation to YouTube it made it easier for
viewers to locate and watch the presentation.
(5 Hours)
Reflection: Creating the presentation and all of the visuals that went along with it was my favorite
part of the whole capstone process. I enjoyed creating and designing the presentation through
Keynote and editing the video through iMovie. In the Capstone tab of my Weebly site I have
uploaded all parts of my capstone project including the presentation.
