Show on June 11th and 12th. On December 4th & 5th , I will be at the
Franklin, Tennessee Civil War Relic Show trying to get vendors for ours.
They have over 1000 tables!
I can’t put everything that that we did this past year in this letter
but, I did want to give you a few highlights. We participated in several
re-enactments, headstone dedications, & memorial services. We sent
more than $1,000.00 to Beauvoir for fence repairs needed from the
hurricane damage. We held our annual Civil War Relic Show that was
attended by over 2,000 people. The Relic Show also raised $2,000.00 for
The Wounded Warriors of MS! We raised money for donations to St
Jude’s Children’s Hospital, our Veterans at the VA Hospital, & VA
Nursing Home. We held our annual Turkey Shoot for Kids that attend
Fall Muster at Beauvoir. The list goes on and I can’t mention everyone
who made these activities happen but, you know who you are. Every
activity requires time taken out of lives, coordination with work & loved
ones, money out of our own pockets, and the dedication to make it
happen. I don’t think that any of these activities would be possible if you
did not have confidence that we are doing what we are supposed to do as
Sons of Confederate Veterans! I think General Steven Dill Lee would be
proud!
The 2021 VA Hospital Christmas Event will be on December 4th
and will last from 7:45am-12:00pm. The event is a chance for elderly
disabled veterans to “Christmas shop” for their families from the gifts
that we and others in attendance will bring. The gifts don’t have to be
anything extravagant; a $10 gift or a couple $5 gifts would be just fine.
You will not be able to attend the event because of the COVID

Commander’s Quote:
“If it’s important to you, you’ll find a way.
If not- you’ll find an excuse.”
ADJUTANT’S REPORT
by Charles Lewis

"No, we had no Christmas, merely the 25th of December come and gone. No chimes of gladness at the recurring anniversary of the advent of the
Prince of Peace– no outward recognition of the fact that anything was commemorated by the day - only incessant work of the Army.”

– Alexander S. Pendleton, Assistant Adjutant General to Stonewall Jackson, Richard S. Ewel & Jubal A. Early
Christmas 1862

We had 52 people sign in at the November meeting. Rabi Tom Fortenberry opened the meeting with prayer and 2nd Lt. Tom Lilly led the pledge and
salutes to the flags. As always, Mr. Ralph Smitherman was there to test our history knowledge with his trivia questions.

November's speaker was re-enactor, Thomas Ramsey, assisted by Brayden Gray and Ryan Stanley. He explained the different impressions of uniforms;
worn by himself, Brayden, and Ryan, and talked about the earthworks He, Ryan, and another young man dug at Beauvoir. He then encouraged everyone to
do research and know your historical subject matter before speaking to the public.

Brandi Gray gave the OCR report and Bo Pitts reported on Fall Muster and the Turkey Shoot.

We had ninety shooters (and a few "freebies"). Thankfully the weather was nice and everyone seemed to have a good time. Thanks to all who came down
to Beauvoir and helped with this yearly event. From the proceeds of the "Shoot" we donated another 300 dollars, for another section of the fence project, to
Beauvoir.

Michael S. Jones reported on the "Adopt a Highway" trash pickup on October 9th. We had twelve in attendance. Breakfast snacks, provided by Michael
and Jeremy Bowling, along with good fellowship was enjoyed by all.

At the November meeting 75 Christmas cards was signed by the SCV and OCR members. These cards will be sent to troops deployed overseas.

A little bird told me that Andrea Cupit has been very busy getting out Christmas cards to the membership and Relic Show vendors. Thank you, Ms Cupit.

Mr. Wallace "Wally" Wayne Morse received his membership certificate at the November meeting. Welcome, Mr" Wally and Thank You for volunteering to
do the camp scrapbook. He will be needing pictures and information for the scrapbook, so members if you have something, get it to Tim and I am sure he
will get it to Mr. Wally.

We drew for the AR-15 at our November 2021 meeting. The AR-15 was donated by Willard Chatham. Michael Wade donated a case and customized extra
magazine. Congratulation Mr. Rickey on your win.

Rabi Tom closed the meeting with prayer.

On Oct. 30th several camp and OCR members attend and participated in a memorial service for Pvt. Elisha Edwards, Mendenhall MS.

Several camp and OCR members attended and participated in the re-enactment at Camp Moore the weekend of November 20th & 21st.

OCR members, Christine Heathman, Chandra D'avy, and Robbie Lewis volunteered at the VA Hospital as part of the week-long Veterans Day activities.

Then on Monday, Oct. 22nd OCR members Charla Lewis and Robbie Lewis delivered toys, collected by the SCV camp and OCR chapter, to the Rankin
County Sheriff Department as part of the "Operation Family Blessing" project. These toys will be given to children whose parent/parents are inmates in the
Rankin County and surrounding counties jails.

CONFEDERATE CORN BREAD

A question came to me the other day! Why are so many Yankee’s coming South these days? I know that a whole lot of them came South
in 1861 though most were not invited. Still today they are still coming South for a reason. I believe I have the answer. Them Yankees are
still coming South to receive the Good News. Faith, food, and front porch sitting are some of the things I believe are drawing them
South. For all of y’all that love to take part in re-enactments. Here’s a sure shot recipe that is guaranteed to pull them Yankee’s in even
closer.

Confederate Corn Bread

1 TB butter
2 Cups white or yellow cornmeal 2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. salt
2 eggs
2 Cups milk
1/4 cup oil

Grease a 9" iron pan with butter. Combine the cornmeal, (Up North some Yankees use self rising flower, Down South we wait up on the
Lord. Isaiah 40:31), baking powder, if y’all got it, and salt in a large bowl. In a small bowl whip the eggs with a clean stick or fork and
mix it with the milk and oil. Stir until all the dry ingredients are wet, add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and then pour the
whole mess (batter) into the hot pan and cover. Bake 20-25 minutes until the top is lightly browned or until the smell of fresh baked
bread causes your neighbors to start knocking on your screen door.

When ready, take your knife and cut the hot corn bread into pie shapes. Cut each slice of corn bread through the middle like the
separation between your shirt and pants and butter to taste. Up North, Yankees use a pad of butter. Down South most folks like a whole
stick of butter. If y’all ain’t got butter, you can use molasses or honey– all of it is good eating.

The best eating for corn bread is with folks around a camp fire or fresh out of the stove or fireplace. It also goes good, finger broken, in a
home squeezed glass of milk.

Southern days bring memories of simple folks and ways that have not changed. Come to think of it I just might go and make me a pan of
Confederate Corn Bread.Amen andAmen

CARL THE BUFFALO HUNTER
by Carl Merck

In the padded lounge chair

Carl drifts into the past
And watches the wild Indians
and buffalo pass.

In his belt–
the cartridges are many,
and on the plains
the targets are plenty.

Out on the plains

danger abounds,
which is always the case
when the Red Man is around!

On this grassy knoll

I'll make my stand,
And in a few minutes
I'm at the task at hand.

When all of a sudden,

Charla Lewis and others from the W.D. Holder Chapter of the UDC, and members there's a scream and a clatter!
of the SCV held a ceremony honoring Pvt. George Davis.
I jump from my knees
to see what's the matter!

Will this blood-thirsty savage

this morning's hunt crash?
No, it's only Mary yelling,
"Carl take out the trash!"

So in a few short moments

the prairie's back in my gaze,
and the plains are surrounded
by a golden morning haze.

I'll get a big bull

with each trigger's jerk,
because that blood-thirsty savage
just left for work!

The winner of the Ar15 was Mr. Ricky Lee! Congratulations!!! A

huge THANK YOU to Mr. Willard Chatham for donating the rifle
worth over $1,800!!!!
