Come and let us speak of the them rain and sun and protect them from
Earthmother. From hill to mountain, sapling to
towering arbor, tiny trickle to raging river, the
goddess Chauntea watches and nurtures all
living things. She is the life force of the world
and she provides all that we need to live. She is
the autumn dying, the winter calm, the summer
blaze, and the spring awakening. She is the
wind and rain, the cool of night, and the waves
of the sea. She calls on her followers to be wise,
patient, and peaceful.
Those who choose to follow the ways of
the Great Mother must respect all living things.
Tend to the plants that stretch towards the sun,
be kind to all manner of birds and beasts, and
do no swat the fly on your arm or crush the
beetle in your path.
We are called the tend to all of creation,
to serve the Earthmother by defending the
natural world from the predations of evil
beings. Whether driven by hatred, fear, or
greed, those who would seek to despoil the
woods and fields cannot be allowed to do so.
Seek common cause with the men and women
of Sylvanus or Mielikki. Oppose the vile
schemes of despoilers like Talona or Malar.
As you travel the world, remain forever
in touch with the seasons. There is a time for
everything. Aid those who seek your counsel.
Bestow the blessings of the Great Mother on
their crops with one of these prayers:
"Blessed Chauntea, the source of all that is. Look
down on these fields and give them but a
portion of your divine benevolence. Let all those
who labored in these fields partake of their
bounty. This we pray."
"Sacred Earthmother, we call to you. Ensure that
these fields are fertile, rich, and bountiful. Give
disease. This we pray."
We are encouraged to plant or nurture
something living every day. Pick weeds to let
flowers through, comfort a startled horse, mend
a broken bird's wing, or feed a hungry dog.
Participate actively in agriculture so that all can
feel the touch of Chauntea.
Rise with the sun and when possible, set
with it as well. Pay homage to the moon.
Observe the festivals of the spring and fall
equinoxes. Use your talents to make food safe to
eat, and water safe to drink. Restore diseased
woodlands and rivers. Draw poisons from the
land with these prayers:
"Sacred Earthmother, this poison must be drawn
away like venom from a wound. Grant us your
healing compassion to cure this land. This we
pray."
"Like the cleansing of a sweet summer rain,
wash away the poison that afflicts this land.
Chauntea, great healer and purifier, rain your
blessings down upon us."
Chauntea is wise. Chauntea is patient.
She is the great provider and the source of all
our blessings. She is the water in our wells, the
fire in our hearth, and the woolen cloak that
shields us from the snow. To follow her you
must surrender to the natural rhythms of the
world. Listen to the rain, drink from the rivers,
watch the birds, and smell the earth. Should
you choose the way of the Earthmother, may
she bless and keep you.
