As per the instructions in class, please choose one of the two companies offered in you case
study section and in pairs or groups of 3 please create a pptx and a list (not a text, but a list
in bullet points) about how you would raise the profile of your chosen company's ethical
position.

Use exercise 2 on page 41 of the copies I handed out in class, or in your PDF version of the
book to guide you through your presentation. No longer than 5 minutes per group, and
everyone has to present. If you do not present a point, you do not get the points for this task.

ETHICAL BUSINESS
Our company, Ben & Jerry’s is an internationally known company which principally offers
their clients a huge variety of ice creams. In the company we take care of a lot of issues and
we try to fight against problems like climate change or racial injustice

Although the position of our company on ethical values is quite clear we have thought of
some activities or events that could help to raise the profile of the company’s ethical position
by cooperating in favor of the society.

● We take the ice cream that we haven't sold and that is about to expire and we
decided to distribute the ice cream with an ice cream truck that could go anywhere in
every city.
One of the events will help the most needy people, some ice creams are not
sold and are then thrown away. In order to avoid this waste, we partner with local
associations in our production cities and distribute the ice creams to the poorest
areas. We will use electric ice cream trucks.

This event will take place during the two summer months, from July to
August, when we have the most waste in our production chain
We would like this project to develop in all the cities where we produce but we need
to partner with charities. If you are interested in this project, or know someone who is,
you can contact us on our website.
The people distributing the ice cream will be volunteers. We prefer to entrust
the distribution to associations that are specialised so that no mistakes are made.
We will finance the distribution from A to Z but will not decide or impose any
guidelines on the associations. In exchange, we ask for full transparency of the
distributions.
Unfortunately, we can't do this all year round. The dates will be published in
advance during the month of June on our website and the organisations will notify the
people concerned.
We are already in contact with the association "les restos du coeur" in France
and “Caritas” in Spain and in Macedonia.

● Organise an event with young people where they decide to clean up a part of the city
by collecting waste.

We did a survey of our consumers to make sure they weren’t just there for our ice cream, but
also for our climate and ethical commitment.
We proposed to them several types of actions to engage concretely in our fight.
Thus, this survey allowed us to then set up a new project: young people will pick up waste
on request from the company Ben and Jerry, in exchange for ice cream from us.

So we set up this project: every year, in the first week of May, several hundred young people
from more than 300 cities in which Ben and Jerry's is located will collect as much waste as
possible.
They collect a 10€ discount for each 10 kilos of waste collected.
It’s a way to gain benefits while helping the planet.

Many waste collection operations are already carried out regularly around the world by
people committed to the climate.

What we’re trying to do here is help them reduce the amount of waste, yes. But above all,
the goal of our action is to target people who were not necessarily engaged in this fight, and
to ensure that after this action they become aware of the issue and become actors in the
fight against global warming.

The proposed reward is a kind of "game" that pushes to get involved and therefore to act
better and make better results.

Big rewards are also planned for the 3 people who, during this week, will collect the largest
amount of waste in the name of the action launched by our company.

If this project works well, it will be renewed every year the first week of May in the World, the
goal being to make it a real event where people meet, understand, and take part in the same
fight, an important fight, an ethical fight.
● The last idea is to organize an event to recollect money for the charity. The point
would be to make a big raffle, offering the winner of the raffle a huge award like a car.
We would put on sale lots of tickets so that people can buy them and participate in
the raffle. The aim of this is that all the money that people spend on buying the
tickets is going to be managed for the charity, for the people that really need it.

The price of the tickets would be considerably low and we are offering a temptative
prize such as a car, as the purpose of this event is to take part as many people as
possible.

The event to know the winner will be scheduled on the 19th December just before
Christmas as we think that is the time of year when people could feel more willing to
help other people. The event will take place in the state of Vermont, in the United
States due to the office of Ben & Jerry’s is located there.

If the event is successfully done the plan would be to continue doing it once per year
but trying to do it better each year and trying to improve the impact of it so that more
and more people participate.
