11 – Aguilar Running President this coming 2022 Election The Philippines is anticipating the upcoming Presidential Election by the year 2022. In the days of application for candidacy, eight people filed for the said position: Former Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella, Senator Ronald Dela Rosa, Former Secretary of National Defense Norberto Gonzales, Senator Panfilo Lacson, Mayor of Manila Isko Moreno, Senator Manny Pacquiao, and Vice President Leni Robredo. The competition is already stiff, even before the campaign period. People's opinions are divided, particularly between Marcos and Robredo. Many people say that Bongbong Marcos will be a great leader while others supported the self-proclaimed nation’s mother Leni Robredo. Despite both candidates' outstanding promises for the nation and the people, I feel that our country's destiny is not completely in the hands of the next president. It is the nation’s people as well. While it is true that having a leader will help lead a country to move forward, from my observation, I am afraid it is quite different in the Philippines and I disagree with this system. The voters choose their leaders and put them on a pedestal where they are seen and hailed like idols. The people believe they should serve the leaders even when they are not receiving enough service in return. Maybe I'm wrong, but as a citizen of this nation, this is what I saw. They worship these government figures. For the people's support to the government by paying taxes and being a good citizen, these officials must serve and aid them in return. Also, given what I have seen and heard, folks think their president will lift them out of poverty even if they do nothing. The government controls people, sets rules, holds the power. They take a big part in our daily lives, mostly all of our lives. Every administration, people encounter different kinds of treatment and freedom. Some are excellent, some are normal, some are power-hungry, and some are free. People cannot blame the government since we elected them to power in the first place. People always thought that government is always wrong, the government is not good, and many other things. However, people are the main reason why the government is like that, so people’s vote is very important for a better government. As a new generation, I realized that one vote could change everyone’s future. It is like a given power for us to give to them. For my generation, I advised you all to vote wisely. Our future depends on us and it will be a big impact if we choose a great leader. A leader who inspires, not commands. But only one candidate will improve the nation.
