Recording for Activity 1 – Listening

Today I’m going to talk about social media, also known as social networking. There is a
lot you need to consider when having fun and staying safe online.

Social networking is fun. You can keep in touch with family and friends, especially if they
live far away. You can make new friends and share music, pictures...anything you want
really.

We don’t always think about the negative points of social networking, but it is important
to follow a few simple rules to stay safe online.

Firstly, your privacy settings are really important, so make sure they are set properly.

Be careful who you friend or follow. The simple rule is, if you have any doubts, don’t do
it.

Make sure that you have a strong password. Use numbers and symbols as well as
letters so no-one can hack your account and send information pretending to be you,

Finally, never agree to meet anyone that you don’t know in real life and don’t give
anyone your address, email or telephone number.

Staying safe online is about being responsible and looking after yourself.
