1. Introduction
A. Attention getter: According to Dr. Steven Phillipson, a person with OCPD
is comfortable with their high standards and rigid mindset. A person with
OCPD will justify their actions instead of admitting any sort of problem, which
they blame on the environment or external circumstances.
B. WIIFM: According to the National Institute of Mental Health, about 1 in 5
U.S. adults had a mental health issue in 2014, and 1 in 25 lived with someone who
had a serious condition, such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or major
depression. These can be seen in any kind of age group.
C. Credibility: I have some basic knowledge about what is an obsessive-
compulsive personality disorder, it is a disorder that involves an obsession with
perfection, rules, and organization, which leads to routines and rules for ways of
doing things.
D. CIS: It is the abnormalities of the mind that result in persistent behavior
patterns that can seriously affect your day-to-day function and life.
Transition: The first thing we need to know is what is OCPD and its causes.
2. BODY
A. OCPD and its causes:
I. Obsessive-compulsive personality disorder (OCPD) is a personality disorder
that’s characterized by extreme perfectionism, order, and neatness. People
with OCPD will also feel a severe need to impose their standards on their
outside environment.
II. One in every one hundred people is affected by OCPD. Even more, are
affected by its symptoms. People with OCPD have no idea that there’s
anything wrong with the way they think or behave. They believe that their
way of thinking and doing things is the only correct way and that everyone
else is wrong.
III. The exact cause of OCPD is unknown. Like many aspects of OCPD, the
causes have yet to be determined. OCPD may be caused by a combination of
genetics and childhood experiences.
IV. The people with OCPD have some characteristics like they find it hard to
express their feelings, find difficulties forming and maintaining close
relations with the people, face social isolation, and mainly they can
experience anxiety that occurs with “depression”.
V. In some case studies, adults can recall experiencing OCPD from a very early
age. They may have felt that they needed to be a perfect or perfectly
obedient child. And these rules were being then carried over into adulthood.
