Before you start writing:

1. Make sure you understand what the task is asking you to give your opinion about. Note (if necessary)
2. Think about what your opinion is and how you will use the notes provided (if relevant).
3. Write down any ideas you have for the task, including the opposing opinion (if relevant).
4. Organise according to the required points.
Plan your essay (I C E)
Paragraph 1 – Introduction
Introduce the topic of your essay so the readers know what they are going to read about and give
your opinion.
Suggested phrases: Many people say…/Some people believe…/Young people say…/I think/believe
that…

Based on the bullet point 1, write your arguments or elaborate the point that support your opinion of

When you have finished writing, check that:
a. you have followed your plan.
b. answered the question in the task.
c. you have given your opinion clearly and used
bullet points (3 bullet points).
d. each paragraph contains the points required.
e. you have supported (elaborated) your ideas
with examples.
f. you have used appropriate language (formal @
informal).
g. you used grammatically correct forms.
h. you have checked for spelling and punctuation
mistakes.
i. your writing style is suitable for the reader.
j. you have used appropriate linking words.
k. you have used appropriate cohesive devices.
