ES2503: FINAL EXAM A-TERM 2021

The final exam will be uploaded at 1:00 pm and you have to submit
your work by 11:59 pm on CANVAS website. This is an open book
and open notes exam. Please show all steps. Points will be given only
if steps are correct.

PROBLEM 1:
If the force exerted on cable AB by the motor is F= 100t3/2 N, where t is in
seconds, determine the crate’s velocity when t=5 seconds. Please take mass of
crate m=50 kg. The coefficient of static and kinetic friction between the crate and
ground are µs =0.4 and µk=0.3. Crate is at rest initially. [20 points]
PROBLEM 2:
The 8-kg block is moving with an initial speed of 5 m/s. If the coefficient of kinetic
friction between the block and plane is µk=0.25, determine the compression in the
spring when the block momentarily stops. [20 points]
PROBLEM 3:
The 2-Mg car increases its speed uniformly from rest to 25 m/s in 30 seconds up
the inclined road. Determine the maximum power that must be supplied by the
engine, which operates with an efficiency of ε = 0.8. Also, find the average power
supplied by the engine. [20 points]
PROBLEM 4:
The door has a weight of 200 lb and a center of gravity at G. Determine how far
the door moves in 2 s, starting from rest, if a man pushed on it at C with a
horizontal force F= 30 lb. Also, find the vertical reactions at the rollers A and B.
[20 points]. Use the translational equations of motion for rigid bodies.
PROBLEM 5:
The 20 kg roll of paper has a radius of gyration kA=90 mm about an axis passing
through point A. It is pin supported at both ends by two brackers AB. If the roll
rests against a wall for which the coefficient of kinetic friction is µk = 0.2 and a
vertical force F= 30 N is applied to the end of the paper, determine the angular
acceleration of the roll as the paper unrolls. [20 points]. Use the planar equations
of motion to solve the problem.
