Being against reselling digital music

In the 21st century, almost everything is now digitized, from photos, to arts, to even music. However,
even though its digital, it still belongs to the creator or author who created the piece of art.

Authors now sell their works of art to entertain their followers and to sustain themselves. However,
when people buy the song for example, there’s the great misconception that they own the rights to the
song, meaning they own it. Not only with this but it is illegal to resell this digitized music.

When you buy the song in digital stores like iTunes, you are in fact buying a license which gives you the
right to play that song and that license has an innumerable number of restrictions. It’s all in the
infamous Terms and Conditions that we all skip over. In Apple’s iTunes Terms in conditions, it has certain
phrases such as:

- Apple is the provider of the Service, which permits you to purchase or rent digital content
("Products") for end user use only under the terms and conditions set forth in this Agreement.

- (i) You shall be authorized to use Products only for personal, noncommercial use.

- (vi) iTunes Plus Products do not contain security technology that limits your usage of such
Products, and Usage Rules (ii) – (v) do not apply to iTunes Plus Products. You may copy, store,
and burn iTunes Plus Products as reasonably necessary for personal, noncommercial use.

- Except for the rights explicitly granted to you in the Terms of Use, all right, title and interest in
the Service, the Software and the Digital Content are reserved and retained by us, our Digital
Content providers, and our licensors. You do not acquire any ownership rights in the Software or
Digital Content as a result of downloading Software or Digital Content.

Even though we skip the small and long print to just hit the “I have read and agreed to the Terms &
Conditions above” button, we are agreeing that we are subject to be prosecuted if we resell the music.
Not only this but it’s not morally right to do so as you never created this content, and you are stealing
the work of others to pass as your own. Doing such things can being serious consequences such as jail or
high fines that need to be paid. Artists sustain themselves with the works of art they create and have the
legal right to fight for what’s theirs because no one else will do it for them.
